I was looking at my Marusan Giant Gorilla on the shelf and thinking, "I like him. He's quirky. But his paint is a bit boring." But then today I brought him into different lighting and noticed the figure is covered in a very thin layer of silver. I thought I was crazy at first, but there are a few spots where it is thicker and clearly there. I don't think it shows up well in photos, but I'm digging it. It's subtle and encourages study of the piece to really appreciate it.
Met up with @Roger today to compare our blue giant gorillas. Left one was molded in lighter blue and called the American version. Mine is on the right. We believe there may be another shade of blue out there.
Five Points Fest has been added to Marusan's 2020 schedule: http://marusan-toy.com/news/2020_schedule/2020_schedule.html
For those still tracking the Bullmark Hedorah clear "Aurora" versions, a third variant with red eyes has been spotted in the wild: This one seems to be the closest yet to the original prototype photo. Also, this new reissue of the mid-size Earthron is the cutest damn thing I have seen in a while (other than perhaps that vintage OG on YJA last week):
The Bullmark Little series are all new sculpts. Here is my original. I plan to pre-order the new Bullmark Little version. I will show comparison picks one day to the original.
@Roger @chimply.kaiju - Ah, thank you for the correction, gents. I was wondering why I was finding it to be so incredibly striking, especially after eyeballing a vintage mid-size just a week or two ago. I did not yet put the two photos side-by-side. Thanks!
That's not my picture, I only have the mid size and giant reissues. I have originals of Astron's ghost, but not Astron himself.
Just in time for Easter, Bullmark has on offer* a second nice version of a GID Zazahn, this time festuring horizontal stripes in a lovely pastel arrangement: Similarly, if this guy tickles your fancy, then you might also want to check out a somewhat matching Dangar in GID vinyl: Happy egg (and toy) hunting, everyone! * PS, overseas delivery is not possible
In addition to those two, Hakaba Gallery also posted a glow Baltan reissue with light-colored paint: There are times when those light pastel hues work really well. Bullmark did a good job on these three.
Ended up with a MechaG in a group buy to get a JJ. The detail on that tiny figure is NUTS. There's something really cool about these little guys...
Quick question: should we repost from Marusan’s (Kaminaga’s) insta page? He is constantly updating, and I know most of us are already following him...but there are a few of us that don’t keep up with Instagram. Not sure if this would be a service or a nuisance if we repost all of it here. Anyway, here’s some pretty J-tail Gojis from said page! Not sure where these are dropping. Most of the recent posts are pop-up shop exclusives, it seems.
Thanks Daniel. I don't see why not. No need to post every image, that would be a bit overwhelming and excessive, but certainly if there is something that pops out. I am one of those who is not on IG, so seeing this stuff here is great.
Yeah, please don't assume that because things get posted to IG that we all know about it. I come HERE for my toy info.
