Ugh. As a collector who almost solely picks up the RxH lucky cats, I can say that everything went to shit years ago. I think I was able to get my last new release cat in 2012 before I had to give up to the insane cost on the secondary market. Oh well, I guess I probably have enough in my collection presently
Like when random people message you asking to buy shit from a photo you posted 7 years ago, that's rude. Everything I'm interested in selling is in the For Sale section, which is nothing for the last few years.
Don’t believe Mori is any kind of stupid to think that would work. But I’m sure he would be a much better president.
Finished up this illustration after doing bits and pieces over the past couple of weeks.. keen to draw more RxH characters now! View this post on Instagram
It seems to me that, no matter what anyone else says or does, regardless of aftermarket price fluctuations, flipper fuck squads, inclement weather, locust swarms, etc, etc, Mori is going to keep cranking out impressive quantities of awesome toys at affordable prices until he physically can’t anymore. Maybe I’m speaking out of ignorance, but I feel that’s a pretty accurate assessment. He’s the sofubi world’s Rock of Gibraltar. Trends will come and go- Mori is gonna keep cranking.
His collaborators like Skulltoys and Atom A might not have been around as long, but I see the same ethos there. Quality work, priced great, and always with some effort behind it to make it more accessible.
I don't know how far back Atom's work goes, so fair point. I want to say Mori has been producing his own toys since 03, but my memory's like a damn sieve
Yeah, I'd say 2010 is about right for Atom A. He was doing resin stuff, but I think it was around 2010 he started getting into vinyl. Edit: RxH Oni Head was late 2003 and the Mutant Head was 2004.
Definitely appropriate! What started out as the leg cracks sculpted into the toys, ended up looking like jacked up veins by accident!
Picked these three lovely little painted metallic guys up at this past years 2018 Dcon. I was so damn happy he brought these last year! Told Mori face to face that his tanuki toys are my favorite design. The funny thing is there was enough for everyone to go around to.
It's ok, I got screwed over at Dcon on anything fortune cat related last year. He had the super big ones apparently to. I got lucky with one of those small glow in the dark pink ones in 2017 though!
@aquaphase Were you at DCon 2015/2016? He still had leftovers of Cats and several other minis at the end of Sunday. Lulubell ended up sellin’ them for him on our web store. 2017 was really where his speed picked back up, full flipper force.
Sadly, no. I don't get to travel much for pleasure these days. Amy used to hold new cats for me back in the day, but sadly not much recently
@aquaphase Bummer summer on not being able to travel! And to be honest, 2016 was the last time we got anything from Mori to sell for his US base. With social media bein’ so prevalent now, he’s really got no need for the middlewoman anymore. Great for him and releases, but sad for us, ‘cause I don’t get to see his cool releases anymore!
