This is a potentially really cool opportunity. I'm working on a feature film starring Daniel Radcliffe, it's this: http://variety.com/2017/film/news/daniel-radcliffe-signs-up-action-comedy-guns-akimbo-1202424691/ I just met with the production designer and the art director about making some props, and they also mentioned the character's toy collection and I was like, "I think I can help with that." So to avoid the rigamarole of clearing licenses with Marvel or some other beurocratic entity, I suggested using artist-owned designs--plus it's going to be a cool opportunity for those artists. I can't say too much publicly about this, but if any of the members here who have produced their own toys would like to be involved, drop me a line: lastresorttoys@gmail.com This isn't a donation--at minimum, costs will be covered--but I don't have further money details at the moment, just looking for interest and willingness. And this isn't a "Maybe this film will get made" situation, it is happening. It's a low-budge indie gritty, violent, dark comedy, starring Daniel Radcliffe--shooting starts in 6 weeks. Would be great to feature some toys from anyone who thinks this sounds cool!
@ungawa222 @JoeMan @Paulkaiju @Rich @michael @blurble @Grizlli @Sanjeev @evom @Fig Belly Can anyone think of anybody else?
Ah, thanks dude! Forgot about the @ function! Anyone off the forum too would be welcome if anybody wants to direct a friend or connection to my email lastresorttoys@gmail.com I'm using some of my own sculpts, obviously, and I've also asked Justin Ishmeal.
I don't see why not. I want to be inclusive here. Ultimately the ones that get in will be decided by the production designer--could end up being a size, color, character choice--you never know. But at this point I think we're just looking for artists willing to participate. Just send me a good photo. Ultimately I'll have to connect everyone with the art director or some coordinator to sort things out, so it's best if you can email me so I can connect those who need connecting.
I'll only do it if Daniel Radcliffe follows me and shouts me out on Instagram. And I'm not following him back.
Oh goodness, I didn't even think about resin Maddie ( @hellointerloper ) That opens a whole can of worms, plus I keep remembering people. @brianflynn @3x3is9 @Leecifer @Ghost&Flower @badteethcomics @BOB CONGE @coma21 @cometdebris @CopASquatToys
This is interesting, and you are free to do whatever you want of course, but if it is a matter of trying to actually capture a 'collection' rather than just throwing toys on a shelf, in the background of a couple random shots, I would suggest you give it some thought. Throwing out a lot of names is fine - and yes, everybody and their family pet seems to be making their own toys these days, whatever you think of that - but I think, if the intent here is to actually capture someone who collects and loves toys, perhaps trying to build the type of exemplar collection which reflects more of the norm might better capture it - not to mention appear more believable in the long run (if anyone cares). Nonetheless, cool for the community, and I hope - though we might be the only ones who really notice - the artists that get showcased get a little smile and nod out of it; it is for fun after all (or so I hope people trying to get in are viewing it).
Of course--it's not going to be a willy nilly slapped together thing. We do put a little effort into creating our characters! If you've watched Ash vs Evil Dead, I'm working with the same production designer, who is one of the best in creating thoughtful, detailed environments I have personally worked with. Ultimately it will hinge on style, color, size etc what composes the collection. And it's ultimately not up to me anyhow, that's the production designer's job, but I'm hopefully going to have some sway in this regard as I'm obviously sort of the inside man. This here is a "who's potentially interested?" Then we (film art team) figure out what to do once we have options. And yeah, there may also be some decisions made that may not ring 100% true to a collector's eye, but the production designer may just feel like a purple thing fits better in this spot than a green thing because of the way the lighting is set up--that's also the world of film. Also, frankly, I'm not sure if the character would be considered a thoughtful collector, from what I've gathered, which isn't much yet, he's not the most put together kinda fellow.
Cool man! Just send me an email if you don't mind. Attach a photo of the toy/toys you'd want us to use (production is buying them) and just let me know how big they are. lastresorttoys@gmail.com
Forbidden!!! Okay, fine, added caveat that any Old Ones toys you have got stashed away must be sent directly to me for 'inspection' first.
Eenteresting. Sounds like much fun will be had. I’ll have to throw my horse into the ring too. And props for suggesting this route for the film, @LastResortToys .
Good showing so far! I think we'll be putting together a really cool collection. I'll talk the art director through some aspects and see what their thoughts are/have been thus far. Will continue the conversations with the artists through email, so again, if you haven't emailed me yet and would like to potentially have your stuff used, please do! lastresorttoys@gmail.com
I think I've responded to everyone who has gotten in touch, if not, you can send me another message and I won't be annoyed! I'm meeting with the art director tomorrow to make some decisions. This isn't a cutoff per say, just a call to attention if anyone hasn't emailed me yet! lastresorttoys@gmail.com Thanks again to everyone willing to share their art--I think this will be really fun and cool!
