^^ He did say don't shoot the messenger ...

So CPF 'remix' the famous characters and all they do is add an extra pair of eyes!? Shades of Kaws, i'd say ....

I have never heard of Cactus Plant Flea Market before, but I am guessing their "thing" is extra eyes, the way that Kaws does Xs for eyes.'

These modern corporate/street art mashups feel really strange to me. It's one thing when Nike releases an exclusive toy in conjunction with a sneaker, but something like this feels next-level weird: https://www.generalmills.com/news/p...monster-cereals-return-in-kaws-designed-boxes

    More like next level lazy!

“It’s been a thrill to collaborate with General Mills and Monster Cereals,” said KAWS. “I’ve been a big fan of the cereals since I was a kid. Even now, I love the original box designs and the creativity and imagination they invoke.”

... so i didn't use any creativity or imagination, slapped a few X's on their eyes and bones on the side of their heads and made bank. Like i did with a bunch of other iconic characters. I've being doing it for years now. Piece of piss!

Hehe, that's a bit strong. I used to like Kaws back in the day, but now he'll license his schtick to practically anyone that will pay, and it's irritating. I can't really blame anyone for taking easy money, we've all got bills to pay, but its the same old tired boring shit over and over again. I suppose it properly started to irritate me when he slapped X's on the Peanuts characters eyes. Its illogical, but I took it personally.

Its the same when Ron English calls himself a 'culture jammer'. I want to slap him. No, you're just an unoriginal c*nt who is living off past successes from a long time ago.

^^^ you will have to click through for that silly joke.

I agree on the laziness, but to elaborate on the weirdness: I am trying to imagine the McDonald's execs in a board room, one of them pitching the idea, and the majority of them saying, "yes, this is good, let's do this." In what crazy fucking alternate universe would that actually happen?

I wonder how these are going to sell. I knew who Kaws was when he showed up on those surreal cereal boxes. I have never heard of Cactus Blah Blah Blah before this, but I am admittedly tragically un-hip.

Matt Alt has been writing about the trend of "kidulting" lately, this definitely fits in with that.

I'd never heard of the term 'Kidulting' before, very interesting!

CPFM is a streetwear brand similar to the hundreds, huf, Diamond etc... just lesser known to the masses, but has did collabs with Kaws/Travis Scott/Kid Cudi/Nike/Stussy/Kanye/ASSC... the list goes on.

NagNagNag x McDonalds. I actually don't hate them, but at the end of the day they are little static trinkets with a run of 100,000.
In other news I did win one of the Kaws Cereal box sets, if anyone wants it for $150, hit me up

You get what you get, and you don't complain KEVIN!

I got one the other day just because. I’m not sure what to do with it. I kind of just chucked it into a random drawer to deal with later.

EDIT: People are going nuts for these on eBay, I wonder what the prices will be when the event is over?

Maybe in scarce areas it’s still going. Most restaurants in my area are already sold out lol.

Another trinket to own in an already saturated hype-beast hustler culture.

It is as if everything is following the supreme Schtick and it’s feeling super played out. Unless you’re between 12-16 in which point you’re dumb enough to waste your cash in this crap and not old enough to have seen it play itself out for like three cycles now

My kids looked at the ad for the adult Happy Meal and said, "That Happy Meal looks kinda weird..." And I was like, yeah, I know.

There must have been a lot of people asking for them at my usual McD's. This was my conversation with the operator at the drive-through:

Me: Could I order 2 Happy Meals?
    Op: They're sold out.
Me: The kids Happy Meals are sold out?
Op: Oh, the happy meal Happy Meals... yeah we still have those.

I always think these McD's promotion crazes are essentially short-lived eBay fodder. How many of the McD's toys have really retained value over the years? The only ones that come to mind were those that had very limited distribution in test markets in the 80s, and are genuinely scarce.

This thread is interesting considering the entire board collects random items. I'm sure people who collect CPFM/humanmade/ Pharrell items are questioning this board. Bottom line..people create and people are trying to make money AND people are buying. In the last ten years....everything is game...it's why etsy, redbubble, zazzle, cafepress etc etc exist.

Great for McDonalds and exposure. They are taking it to the bank and if bringing CPFM brings more customers to to McDonalds then great. Hope the managers or owners are getting paid.

Uh huh. But the quality of the things are crap too. cheap as a normal happy meal toy. maybe worse.

i mean i bought my office lunch on the release, and kept all the toys. win/win... i have known a few that are buying the toys for $20-$25 on stockx, but after fees its a $40-45 toy... so to get nuggies or a big mac, fries, soft drink and a toy for $12 is not a bad deal.

I own quite a few McDonalds toys. The robot and dinosaur 'Changeables' (transforming-food) they made years ago are imaginative and beautifully designed. They're some of the best toys I own, and I'm not much of a fan of their food, so its purely about the toys for me.

I'll stick to proper McDonalds toys made for kids, thanks. Not this quasi-designer-toy equivalent of a half hearted shrug. Talk about mailing it in.
