Find some pics on another website (in this case instagram) put it on the board without asking the permission to the owner so everyone can write everything about it and criticize it. I don't think it's fair.
Fair? Actually both criticism and praise is going on. That's one of the beauties of this board. People speak their mind.
I think we established a long time ago if you put it out there on the web it's fair game. If you don't want criticism you should definitely NOT post pics. That said I'm not being mean or trying to belittle the artist. I really like what he did with the blank minis painting them up to look like the bigger versions. I'd like to see him do it with one of the glows out there. I think we can all use a lesson in everyone has an opinion (even if you think that person is an asshole) and not every toy is great and not every custom is reinventing the wheel. If you like it explain why- there's room for discussion. But there WILL be discussion and not generalized cheerleading here. EDIT:Evom beat me to the punch!
Sorry, I don't mean to start off any war here but I was wondering why not post these in the customs sections, not being official Zollmen releases?
Yeah, I can see how one would think the paint looks heavy handed since there isn't a lot of "airbrushed" or blended paints on them like we're normally used to seeing. But maybe he wanted a flat look to them inspired by robot anime, that was my first impression. Color choices might be a little garish, but once again, and this is just pure speculation on my part, inspired by robot anime. It's hard to tell the quality of paint execution from the pics but I think he did a pretty good job of trying to retain MB details. It looks like he painted individual bolts and even added some paint details specific to characters. One thing to also keep in my mind is, if this person is a collector painting these on his own, he more than likely doesn't have access to the brass paint masks Zollmen uses so that's quite a task by hand. It sounds like I'm defending this person, and...well, I guess I am because he obviously has a passion for these and I simply admire his efforts and the homages he applied to the MB. Maybe these "color studies" will inspire Zollmen to release a Geag/Jeeg version. That I would love! Edit; Yes, I'm with Rudebeast, maybe these are more appropriate in customs section.
I'm not that keen on the full size customs (or any customs for that matter) but this updated pic has to be welcome in this thread? Ok not official and customs BUT they are mini replicas of the real thing right? Anyway this is for those not on IG who don't go near the custom section Either it's a piece of piss to find Zollmen in Japan or maybe he has a link with Zollmen? With all the Barons (plus previous Demekings/Peporas/Maza) customs - maybe he gets extras to paint. Not to mention his MIB Fancy / Space Toy and Maza collection!
I think the standard size Mad Barons are pretty good. While I know a lot of people favor the retro-style Super Robot paint schemes of the normal releases, it is refreshing to see a new take on the toy. Sometimes I get a little tired of tribute color schemes. I wonder if the comments would differ if this was a run of one-offs by someone at Zollmen or another 'artist' in Japan. But it does seem like a waste to buy so many expensive/rare figures just to customize.
So "Spamper" stating that, "unpainted Punk Drunkers release of the last year so no rare version was touched." was only regarding minis? Oh man. Well, he can do what he wants with what he buys but It WOULD be disappointing if he used regular releases for those full-size customs. I better look up these "Punk Drunkers."
Just so everyones clear...The Punk Drunkers full size MB was painted...The unpainted ones were the same mini's offered on OMO. Ralph here's pictures of the rest of the collaborations they have done with Zollmen... (Possibly my favorite Galtan) Huh?..If you don't want people using you pics on the web don't post pics on the web.
Now that is a really nice lot. All the original colors I think. I gave great thought last night on how he'd do a GID mini like the original since it's GID with a clear helmet. Are these mini's molded in two pieces? Looks like he swapped a clear head onto a GID body. Anyhow I like where this discussion is going. You can't get me to change my mind on the standards but I like that people are saying well I like them because this is a Jeeg tribute etc etc. I only saw the Jeeg tribute maybe, did not recognize the rest, but that's what I like here: You can learn something. I'm just not a fan of the whole "+1 that's great" thing.
Spamper is a decent guy. He's a fellow local who's just not used to the ways of the board. And he's sticking up for another local who isn't here to defend his work. That's all.
It's a painted clear Chris, not actually GID just painted to look like it. They are in two pieces, joined at the waist. Would be a bit tricky to cut the heads off and swap...
Well at this point considering the custom conversation is continuing I might as well join in... and I must admit I really like that mini pseudo-GID MB, would love to have one to add to my standard.
I don't even care about the customs but this x1000. Dude's not even on the board, you all know his instagram, if not SEARCH it's easy. Why not go say something to his face?
The reason pics first got posted was because someone thought the mashup he made was a release. Same thing happened with the Space Guy he painted a while ago. I thought people were posting the pics to clarify that these are just customs. As usual it just snowballed into something.
I feel bad for starting this as in asking about that draki release, honestly I thought it was amazing and certainly worthy of a release. I didn't mean for this to escalate. And put it this way if he buys 13 mad barons and customs them which were really superb for himself then who cares? its not like they are 1/1. Anyway blah blah and all that bollocks
This is 1 toy that I'd love to see a Vader tribute on. Excuse my lateness if this has been discussed or mentioned before.
