Not that I'm a "power that be" but I'd say it's quite premature to think that Zollmen has any sort of lasting power to be on the level of the SB/RxH/Garg triumvirate.

It's not really so much lasting power, as it is the total lack of information on the production, history and inspiration behind their toys- or even the identity of the company. What would we talk about in a Zollmen forum? What kind of threads would exist? A lot of "new release!" and "got one, woo!" posts?

Maybe it's just me. It's hard to get excited about toys that don't have context...

Some will argue that only toys with a history or tv show or back story will have real staying power versus just random toy sculpts.

Not sure why staying power should matter though? Isn't that the same as worrying about resale value? I actually don't think I have any Kaiju that are based on a TV/movie series (unless you count hedoran). I do like the back story of something like Bemon, but for something like maza a nice sculpt is enough for me.

I think the staying power comment was directed at creating a separate Zollmen section.

Hey... without that Baywatch logo, he'd just be a weird Ken doll with drawn-in chest hair.

I'm just speaking in general terms.
Not saying that people shouldn't enjoy random sculpts or only buy kaiju based on tv/movies.
Not saying that [insert your favorite toy company] is totally lame.

I am saying (or thinking) that toys with some link to the past or some story offer something more than just a sculpt.
And therefore will still be collected or sought after when everyone else has moved on to the next flavour of the month.

Even homages to past characters are usually more interesting to me than just a random sculpt with a random colourway.

I don't think it matters, but it is true.

In the future, an archaeologist digging up the ruins of my basement, will be much more likely to recognize my Godzilla toys than he/she will recognize my Zollmen toys. Unless, our entire future economy will be based on Japanese soft vinyl toys, as some experts predict.

They will also find my porn. Fortunately, I will be dead.

Ok that makes sense. Always interesting how different things matter to different collectors. I was drawn to Japanese toys originally (bearbricks at the time) because they didn't have a context.

Yup, that's what I was saying. SB, RxH and Gargamel have proven to be staples of this board - Zollmen has just proven to be the hot flavor of the month. Maybe we should have a "Flavor Of The Month" subsection, but not a "Zollmen" subsection. I'm not saying this as a knock either - there's a few colorways of the Mad Baron and Maza that I like, and I dig the King Peporas that have been released so far.

If anything, you would think the next section to be added would be Monster Family.
It seems odd that a toy company would sponsor a board and yet their toy line doesn't have a forum section.

    Back to Zollmen conspiracies...

For sure, it's S7's house and no special "S7 Toys" section? Or is that the "Store Pit?"

I'd rather see an M1 section than Zollmen, and I love Zollmen stuff.

Exactly! But then, it fits in well in "Japan Toys".
If you subdivide this stuff too much then each of the main pages gets less interesting, and the subpages atrophy. How long did the Secret Base page go without a good thread? I've nearly stopped looking at the SB and RxH pages! I pop in to mark them "read" but scan the thread titles first to see if there's anything worth clicking on.

ALSO, to those paying $300+ for these.....ouch! Really? Ouch!
