^ there are new kits that run closer to $500-$600, which isn't too bad. but these machines take an entire day to print something substantial, which would be frustrating if you have to keep tweaking your design
It looks like a resin one I saw a while ago. Hopefully Nerd One will have more of these + more info about them at the next show. Everything at WF was display only.
Yeah those 500 kits are the old rev tho. I did see them printing the Steven Colbert head live and it only took about 2 hours for a 3 inch tall head. We can take this discussion over to the whatever section if the mods so decide dont want to derail the Wonderfest greatness. Want mini steregon!
Thanks for the pics!! So much goodness and such reasonable prices, too! Its interesting to see the Cyborg 009 stuff being made now. That Atom A Armwrestler stuff is just creepy! But then again, so is that new Zollmen figure. I'm surprised at the size of the Max Toy Co. Dualos - I thought it was going to be much bigger, like the Dragigus. While not a fan of Real Head, those feline figures are pretty cool.
I'm seriously contemplating getting one of these now, really nice looking kit. I wouldnt wanna machine all those parts myself. The main reason I never made one.
i was actually referring to a makerbot alternative: emaker huxley. give them a try. they're only $550, and they're close to selling out again. i didn't realize that printing time had been improved so much. that's great news! maybe it's due to print resolution, but the one at the museum of science and industry takes overnight to print softball-sized pieces. also, i hope those mini stereogon playsets get produced in vinyl rather than resin. maybe they'll come with interchangeable heads in a mini multi-pack? that'd be so much fun.
The 3-D printing technology keeps getting cleaner and cleaner. In another few years I imagine it will be cranking out sculpts as polished as anything done by hand. But there's something about the spirit of a hand sculpted figure that a machine can never capture.
Going through the posts I found this pic of a Doller Andy are you going to do an indepth expose on Doller Culture? Thatd be freaky...and rad!
I think I'll hold off until my Japanese and psychic defense powers are sufficiently built up. But Abe - I think you are obssessed with these people and may have found a calling as a commentator or convert!
You want me to jump the dollers and rip their masks off? Dasterdly! I've got a couple more doller pics in the next batch. That'll set your fix for a while.
