Haha, I listen to most of those bands you recommended. I'll check out Mr. Kudo though. I really wish some of those bands would tour in the States. I would definitely go see them if they did. I've seen other Japanese bands in the States (Boris, ENVY, Afrirampo, Green Milk From Planet Orange, Boredoms, Acid Mothers Temple, Polysics), but never any Psych bands...
Yeah, the smaller psych/folk acts are quite difficult to see outside Japan. Maher Shalal Hash Baz have played in Scotland a few times, same for Nagisa Ni Te and Tenniscoats (cities like Glasgow have some amazing festivals like Instal, Kill Your Timid Notion et cetera) while singers like Ai Aso are quite difficult to see unless you spend some time in Japan (she plays now and then in Tokyo). Bands like Boredoms, AMT or musicians like Keiji Haino tour across the globe (I've probably seen AMT five or six times, in different formations, from 10+ members to smaller 4 member blasts). If for some reason you finish up in Tokyo this is probably the best website to keep the gigs checked: http://www.tokyogigguide.com/ The Tokyo scene is friggin' amazing, full of great acts. Otherwise some of the best noise acts (Incapacitants, Hijokaidan, Masonna) sometimes tour outside the US (festivals like No Fun have lined up some of the best Japanese noise bands), even if some of the harshest have never left Japan (i.e. Gerogerigegege). Last time I was in Tokyo I was lucky enough to see Masonna's garage band Acid Eater, quite a blast! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osu6X-0lkMk
The Enemy - We'll Live And Die in these Towns LP Super Furry Animals - Dark Days/ Light Years LP Just got into that other addicting type of vinyl, again, after 2 decades.
I have listened to so many bands and so many styles( I like almost all music , but metal, rock, punk sounds are my favs ) Although my interest has waned at times with these two bands, I still come back to them, and at 48 I am proud to say IRON MAIDEN and also RAMONES are my favorite bands. Oh yea, 101 posts, I'm a Toy Prince now, ya New Blood bitches!!!
I just got the new Goatvargr which is awesome foe those who love metal inspired noise and Euro Power electronics The new Swans is good and they are touring! Nadja is still in heavy rotations and I just picked up their cd/dvd set in LA As for Japanese psych, I am not sure where Mainliner fits in but they were amazing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCcfcqc7X5o&feature=related I never knew this remix by Optical existed. its bad!
Glad to see the old farts comin' up with the goods! . . . Cocteau Twins, Pixies, Ramones, Iron Maiden, Stone Roses bring it on! Hey Lixx, are you listening to any of the newer Ian Brown stuff?
Dave is the man. His stuff never gets old and is particularly great around the holidays for some reason.
I've said it in this thread before, and I'll say it again... Mark Mothersbaugh is the fuckin shit!! Not that fond of Devo but by himself he's a whole 'nother animal. Zissou Society for life!
Today its been Mike Watt. Mike Watt @ private backyard skate-pool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV0m53JKPHI FIREHOSE - Relatin' Dudes to Jazz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeov75xE3-E The Minutemen- History Lesson Part II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnbaGjJW ... re=related
Nice! I've never seen him play - the one time I had tickets I got food poisoning the day before the show. That was also going to be one of my first dates with my future (now current) wife.
Agreed! I still love Devo though. Mark is just everywhere, from tons of T.V. commercials, to video games, to movies, and even the theme song to the Rugrats! He is also on the roster for The Art Hustle series 2. So excited in having the chance to acquire some original art from him. I also heard that Mark had put in some subliminal messages in some of his T.V. commercials.
Also got the GoatVargr cd earlier this week. Worth the looooong wait ! + I'm not sure yet if I like the new Melechesh as much as it's predecessors ?!
