Re: Watchmen I don't think it'll be as good as the comic. going to see it anyway. I heard Moore didn't want to have his name in the credits. He didn't want the movie made. period. I didn't know they changed the ending for the movie. ...sigh...
Re: Watchmen Moore's stance is and has always been this...He creates comics. If someone wants to buy the rights to the comic and spin their own interpretation fine but do NOT give him any credit. The association ends there. The reason for this is because once it leaves his hands it shouldn't and isn't his work anymore. I think this is what frustrates him about hollywood. You can buy it...but don't associate it with what's been written. Terry Gilliam also showed interest but agreed with Moore that Watchman is so dense and unfilmable so he didn't want the movie made and yeah they changed the ending. BLAH
Re: Watchmen So many good points have been made and I have to agree that it is quite likely that the film will bomb. It might still be a good film, mind you, but it may fail in sales. The hype might save it, at least for the first few weeks. The Watchmen, as written by Moore, is a very complicated piece of litereature. There are so many characters, all with background stories. Add a world that a lot of people are not familiar with. It is hard to flesh all this out in a 2 hour movie. If the ending has changed, it is going to piss off the fans of the OG. Now, I realize I am writing all this without seeing the film. The basic storyline is a mystery story. This might carry it. It has super heroes that are expendable. That may help. I intend to not reread the OG, just so I can have a little fresher approach. But someone before said it best. You have to keep the OG and the film seperate. Hopefully, there will be one major theme that can be explored and enough to make a 2 hour film. But I still wish HBO could have done it over an extensive season format. But then again, they probably wouldn't finish it.
Re: Watchmen BTW its gonna be closer to 3 hours from what I have read. probably nothing much but a lot more can be accomplished in 3 hours vs. 2.
Re: Watchmen I just finished reading it again and I'm pumped for the movie! There's no way the movie will be as good as they book, they never are...but I hoping for a good time!
Re: Watchmen I do think it's going to blow but the viral "old school" videos that Zach Synder did are promising... Keane act: http://scifiwire.com/2009/02/new-watchm ... utlaws.php
Re: Watchmen Just read as early "review" of the film. (I was going to post a link, but, due to my ancestral dial-up, the browser kept closing. Just google "watchmen review" and you should find it. There are spoilers.) I wouldn't go by this review alone, of course, but they seemed to have answered some of my questions and it looks like it might be quite good.
Re: Watchmen Haha, yeah... "300", "epic" and "amazing" in the same sentence? Was it on this board that someone posted an incredible interview with Alan Moore why he doesn't like his work adapted into films?
Re: Watchmen What ever, don't even know why I post sometimes, I'm better of dead right parka. What I meant was visually I should have said it clearly. 300's story was a pretty epic in terms of a visual. In the 12 issues watchmen was it would be easier to turn into a film. Just saying, but whats it worth. Don't really care anymore... I'm excited and will be at the movies to see this opening weekend.
Re: Watchmen I liked "300" so I must be a blasphemer! I like Alan Moore so now I am a bit bummed by this thread... anybody like his Cthulhu stuff?
Re: Watchmen Jeez, someone forgot their morning coffee. Light-hearted quip disagreeing about 300 being more epic than Watchmen, where 300 was basically some cgi'd fight scenes (over and over and over) than the depth that is contained within Watchmen. I still have no idea what this means.
Re: Watchmen Has anyone checked out some of the other printed material that has come out surrounding the film and comic? I'm thinking the comic companion Who Watches the Watchmen, and the big Watchmen Portraits?
Re: Watchmen I flipped through the Portraits. It is exactly what it portends to be, giant portraits, of cast, costume, and extras. Really cool photography. It's neat to see the detail on some of the outfits. The Comedians pistols for example have the smiley face on the handles, and say "With Gratitude, Richard Nixon."
Re: Watchmen Get watching the watchman book if you're a fan of the graphic novel. Chipp Kidd and Mike Essl. What up Mike?
Re: Watchmen You aren't wrong Lamour, Chip Kidd, is amazing! Little off topic, but Kidd's Bat-manga book is outstanding!
Re: Watchmen On a side note, Mike Essl is the other half of Greg's(Mishka) Mr T and Me website so we were hanging out with him the entire SDCC. I remember Mike showing Tossy from the Cure his Mr T tattoo and then Greg breaking out his ink of Mr. T as well. Also, Mike showed us this crazy original painting of a Cracked Magazine cover with Mr. T which Chipp Kidd bought for him as thank you present for working on the Watchmen book.
Re: Watchmen Cool! The only problem with the book, if you want to call it a problem, is that Alan Moore is not involved. It probably doesn't matter, I could care less what elder god's he made a blood pact with to produce the dialogue on page 37.
