Damn! Paul that condor car is a great score. The box has really nice graphics. Only condorman things i still want are that car and the trike. Finally scored a removable mask dogface. Not so easy to do anymore. Little orange guy is a Marusan OG finger puppet.
That is a fine lot of toys there, Jonathan! Ah yes, the pain on Devilman toys over the last couple of years is something I can relate too; whereas once it was a somewhat reasonable pursuit, now it is a real feat to land anything there affordable - and certainly not without putting in plenty of time and patience. I respect the successful hunt. The finger banger is of course another favourite. I have been trying to add more of the Marusan originals to go along with my lone dude. The others make up an incredible grouping too, there isn't a one there I wouldn't love. Got to give props for the Lion Maru fella, another one it is more difficult to adopt these days.
@XVivaHateX - Nice mail day, Jonathan. I also really like the King Godras finger puppet. The facial expression on the Devilman is great.
@deafmetal thanks the Akira Fudo face is really what sells it. @ultrakaiju thanks Steve. I think I’m at a stopping point with devilman vinyls unless I can find a deal on the mini dogface (yeah right).
Happy i found the whole set. All about the box art! Only Aoshima...you will believe cars can fly.... "" Also finally found these loose in a kit parts lot. They were missing from an Imai unbuilt Q-Land kit I had gotten not long ago. Extremely scarce. ""
Gorgeous stuff. Congrats on completing the set, Paul. Models are one thing I have no problem leaving in the package actually..... because the box art is just so great (and possibly, maybe, also related to the fact that I have negative skills when it comes to either assembling or painting ).
Oh believe me. Most old Aoshima just aren't worth building. Terrible part fits.Heartache and headache. I could never really understand this as the Japanese always accelerated at plastic Hobbies, but these were just disposable junk. All about the box art. I could write a scathing reveal-all on building the Grip Condorman. I imagine many were done half way and ended up in the dumpster. I decided to finish it which required many modifications. It's a painful gray area. Fine finishing absolute plastic cheese. Absolute high-end turd polishing.
Very cool box art. I always loved the Red Hawk ones. There is a great book on Aoshima model kits with all the artwork and models. Highly recommended!
Thanks to everyone who recommended the book, mind boggling collection, think it will remain on my coffee table for many years to come!
@djkemp Very nice! An excellent pickup, to be sure. One of the best overall examples I'd recommend. I need to re-up my game on the vinyl book hunting, as I miss enjoying so many of these wonderful, vintage toy-filled tomes. Toy pr0n for ages. @Michael Beverage Sweet, that is such a great trio. I saw you posted these, but had no idea they came from here. Very jealous, those are wonderful hero figures. I'll be kicking myself for a long time for somehow missing Alan's sale when it was on; but very glad they stayed in the SB family.
So, so impressive. You can just make out that lovely slightly green sheen to him. A wonderful buy, congratulations Mark!!
@ultrakaiju - Thank you, Steve. The paint style and technique on some of these vintage gojis is very interesting. The silver sprays are very understated by what appears to be layers of dark green paint covering the entire body. There is a translated quote from Shuji Kajimoto on CT that might provide some insight, "the spray is carried out has applied color in piles, after applying silver first. This is the paint method of traditional Marusan." Does anybody have more info on this toy painting technique in the 60's/70's in Japan? I have seen it on other Marusan examples in my collection. Is it unique to Marusan or was it a popular style? Is it performed for the unique sheen it provides, or more for the enjoyment of a battle-damaged kaiju exposing the silver paint underneath?
This might be the last mini robo NTV that I didn't have, not sure. Pretty happy to have found him but it is ironic that I missed him over and over again . Now I am pretty much retired and downsizing into codger life, up he pops! Huh! Pushed the button and paid. Couldn't help it.
That is a great catch, Steve. Glad such a lovely little fella could 'pull you out of retirement' so to speak. I envy both you and Scott, this is a series I just need so many more excellent robuts from!
Those are great beauties your shots make them look like mutant fruits bursting with flavor and color!
@djkemp - Dave, I am imagining that you trapped both of those little monsters in the back garden. I have to agree with Steve, very colorful!
Some recent pickups in a nice box of vintage goodness four months in the making: View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram
