Okay don't know if this subject has come up before but do any of you guys collect these? favourite artists ect. I have some original yoshitoshi prints but some are quite violent so i am hesitant to posting scans.
Re: Ukiyo-e prints? I will try find pictures of the ones i have online as i would have to take off the frames. I will get some better scans tomorrow though of mine.
These are some that i have from yoshitoshi's 'selection of 100 warriors' 1868 Reisei Hangan Takatoyo dying of seppuku Sakuma Daigaku drinking blood from a severed head Mine are quite tatty as you would expect as they are about 100 and something years old. He was also interested in Yokai and made lots of prints of ghosts and demons.
A lot of these prints were made during the time when the samurai were being eradicated and fighting was going on in most cities and death was a daily thing. Yoshitoshi himself even witnessed the fighting himself between samurai and the imperial Japanese army i don't think i have pictures of these prints but i can ask some friends for them.
These are fantastic! Ever checked out Suehiro Maruo's or Kazuichi Hanawa's art? Very reminiscent of these! Link: (Not my page, and totally NSFW) http://thepalewhale.livejournal.com/61457.html
I actually have a few of his books the manga is messed up though. Think the styles muzan-e don't quote me on that one haha
There is a new Ukiyo-e book that is nothing but gore and sex. Called Dream Spectres. Good shit. I really love Yoshitoshi. Absolutely amazing!
