I don’t know if any BASKers still check the forum. Is anyone out there? I was in SF Japan town this past weekend and got all misty eyed reminiscing about the heyday of the Bay Area Sofubi scene. Is anyone interested in doing a trade fest?In the plaza, like the old days. I would love to reconnect and see some new faces, and toys.Word on the street is the mall may be closing soon due to the landlord selling the property to developers. I know we are re-entering COVID lockdowns , so before everything goes sideways again maybe we can meet up. Please speak up if you are seriously interested. -J
Wow! I had no idea that the Kintetsu Mall may be closing. Looked for news on this, and it seems many of the shops in and near the mall may be closing (hard to survive the Covid closures). So sad . Count me in on the tradefest! It's been forever since we've last had one. I don't have much to trade, but meeting new and old toybees would be fun! Thanks for getting this rolling! Please chime in so we can make this happen! BTW, if you have any Paul Kaiju Fish Cars up for adoption, please bring them (to me! )! I might have a dupe Toygraph Racer for trade
It’s a massive bummer that the Japan town mall is closing that place brings back so many memories! I’d be super interested in participating in a tradefest though!
That is really sad to hear, if the Japan Center is closing. Some of my best SF memories were in and around that area, to say nothing of the historic and cultural value of the Center and all of the businesses there.
I'm down for a meet up. I don't really have anything to trade since I haven't been collecting much. Weekday would be best. Japantown gets rather crowded on the weekends.
I’d be down for a trade fest! Like others are saying, I don’t have too much sofubi to trade but I have a lot of non-sofubi American figures I could bring. Worth a shot
It might be hard for those of us that live in the valley or north bay to make it into SF on a week day.If we meet up “early” maybe we can avoid some of the crowds.
Sundays are best for me. I'll do a drive by this Saturday to see how busy it is. I know last week was Jtown festival so it was pretty busy.
I'm due for an SF visit. I'll probably miss this, but love the idea. the Plaza always made me so happy.
@Fig Belly maybe another event at Ferris and Kelly's place? Jtown is more crowded now than it was before pandemic. Still, there might be some space at the plaza along the round benches next to the pagoda.
I'm at Jtown and it is much less crowded on Sunday afternoon (around 3pm) so I'd say after 3pm on Sundays would be a good time. It's still busy but most people are in the mall buying soft serve or those damn donuts (that Japan has had for a long time). Let's pick a Sunday.
So this never took off. I’m wondering if you guys would be interested in finding a date and place next year?
Meeting in the East Bay would be much easier for me. @taviq I m moving back closer to you next month.
Anyone still up for this? Covid numbers are pretty low in the city, I think we had a couple of days where we had zero new cases.
