Hi guys, I'm Spasm One, I have been a member since 2006. I have not posted a lot because my English is bad enough but I am very attentive to designers or brands like Blobpus, Bounty Hunter, Real Head, Tkom, etc. Since a few months I worked on the creation of my own toy (and yes again a western gaijin who embarks on Sofubi!). My brand is Touché and my character is Kemushi Kami, literally the caterpillar god. It's a character I created, it does not exist in Japanese mythology. You may be able to see various references like Giger, tardigrades, Alice in Wonderland, Jabba the Hutt, Blobpus, Laughing Buddha ... I hope you enjoy it even if he has no belly-mouth, no disgusting material, no NagNagNag-like style, no visible dick or no references to horror-zomby-creepy movies. Kemushi Kami (Deep Bleu version) by Spasm One, sur Flickr Kemushi Kami (Deep Bleu version) by Spasm One, sur Flickr Kemushi Kami (Deep Bleu version) by Spasm One, sur Flickr Kemushi Kami (Deep Bleu version) by Spasm One, sur Flickr It can be in 3 different configurations: 1 ring, 2 rings and 3 rings (each ring is identical and can be stackable). The 2-ring configuration is the standard configuration with 7 points of articulation, and is 6 inch high. I produced it at Obitsu factory. Kemushi Kami by Spasm One, sur Flickr Kemushi Kami by Spasm One, sur Flickr Kemushi Kami by Spasm One, sur Flickr I will sell it via Instagram, in lottery like everyone else. You can follow Touché's account here: https://www.instagram.com/touche_paris or my personal account for lotteries (not only Sofubi but also motion design and photos from my toy collection) here: https://www.instagram.com/spasm_one Stay tuned !
Nice design, idea, and execution! Probably not for me because I don’t like creepy realistic sculpts but the right paint app could change that.
No dicks, no dice!!! Totally kidding. I really dig this design and sculpt. To me, it's like the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland, if he were a Buddha in agony, so your intended read falls right in line I think. I like the way it sits, and I enjoy the small versatility it has in removing a piece of the torso to make him a bit stumpier, and with each added ring it becomes more looming. This first paint(prototype?) you have here looks great!
Great job, Spasm... it's clear you put a lot of time and thought into the development of this. I love how the posture changes as segments are added. The sculpt is very well done... and very perfectly symmetrical, which makes me think it was 3D-rendered. Can you tell us a bit about the sculpt process? Did you sculpt it yourself? This first paint is very nice, too! Congrats, man!
I love it. It has a hideshi hino vibe and would fit in well with blobpus sculpts. I also like that you have the option to expand the sculpt. Well done for a first release.
This toy is impressively done. Incredibly thought out and executed, which seems to be an increasing rarity these days. And, despite all the the things it is 'missing' <cough> , I think this is a wonderful contender for a foray into the toy world. I definitely see the influences you mentioned there - and I would throw in some Baron Harkonnen into the mix - and I really love the extending feature you've built in. While it's not something that particularly fits in with my own collection, I deeply respect and appreciate the work and design you've put into this guy. Nice work!
Thank you guys. Yes I sculpted it myself and yes it's digital. I sculpted it with Zbrush. I then printed several test prototypes to determine the correct size of the character. Then I reworked and polished the master prototype, and sent it to Obitsu Factory. This blue version is not a custom, it's my first run of 30 copies. They are already ready. I think price will be $150 + shipping. Someone already told me that he reminded him of Baron Harkonnen, that's right!
Not sure if he's for me yet, as I think I'd prefer him with a smile or laughing head. That said I want to second all of the above: it's a tasteful, clever design that works well specifically in toy form. I especially like the puffy areas around the arm (foot?) joints, which integrate them nicely into the body. Can see him fitting in beautifully with a crowd of the Atom A minis.
Really well done! The different configurations could lead to some really fun runs of this guy. Mixed parts would be a dream.
Wow! Really smooth design, love him! Does his torso stack? Can you add pieces to make him taller? Lol I love this thing
@MyVinylVeins : Yes you can stack the rings. From 3 rings it begins to lean but if you turn the rings, it winds like a spiral and you can then add as many rings as you want. To infinity... and beyond ! @aarnfnchr : Thank you !
I imagine so many great colorways are to come. The timing of the 1st release with Dcon was bad for me, but I can't wait to get 1. I despise toys with hair, but this is 1 I could see liking with a little hair...
@Ghost Attack : but he also has a little hidden dick.. @animator : yes I know that the date of my release was not a good timing, so I still have some copies of my first edition if people are interested ..
Awww you put “touché” on his tushy lol I’m sorry, couldn’t resist and omfg lol Nice signature btw, I used to write a long time ago... do you?
