I liked it so much I'm going to pop by a Target tomorrow and buy it. I almost never do that. I actually wrote a review for IMDB, here it is: I find it appalling this film is only a 5.9 out of 10 stars here. I read some of the negative reviews and found them way off base, more apt to be written by a teenager seeking cheap CGI Zombie thrills. If you enjoy hordes of determined slow moving zombies that are none the less menacing then the very unrealistic fast moving CGI kind than this film is for you. This is an adult zombie film not a PG-13 'rake in as many bucks as we can' unrealistic CGI fest. So what about the film? Well first of all it takes the genre to an unfamiliar setting- Africa. At first you might think well how the hell is this going to be scary? It's largely rural, there won't be many 'tight' situations the leads will be caught in. Wrong. They do get themselves in tight situations almost on a regular basis. The African Continent is very populated and our lead guy never gets a moments rest seemingly through out the film. No matter what scene you're in you can almost guarantee there will be a zombie attack. To make matters worse he is battling lack of water, lack of food, lack of fuel, lack of ammo, and almost nowhere to hide from the slow moving (and truly scary) hordes of zombies slowly approaching every scene. Take your minds eyes and envision the African countryside. You've seen it countless times in nature specials I'm sure. Geographically lots of grasslands, sporadic trees, an occasional river, some desert, jungle. Now add zombies everywhere, knowing there is a lack of supplies, and absolutely no place to hide. The zombies themselves are really terrifying! The bright blue eyes make running into one at every turn nail biting. Normally I have to shake my head in disgust at how moronic the actors are in most zombie flicks. I always say to myself: "You really did not think that through did you?" but this one not so much. The main character only makes 2-3 mistakes. So often zombie flicks are predictable and the main cast are holed up in some shelter that eventually over run. Not this one. Our character is out there with no shelter and on the run all the time. If you want a realistic truly scary zombie flick, I highly recommend this one! Oh and to the reviewers thinking this movie is racist, get a life! It's a white American military engineer trying to escape (pretty believable if you ask me), who befriends a black soldier, shooting zombies, trying to survive. Just because they happened to be formerly black people does not make it racist. No one's enjoying it. You have black soldiers shooting zombies also.
Anyone watching Comic Book Men? Kind of off topic, but it's on the same night as walking dead so I figure some of you guys caught it.... and if you haven't you should. Brings me back to the nights in my friends basement where the nerdiess and crudest discusion/arguments took place. Also has a Pawn Star aspect to it, just with all rad stuff. Both episodes are on demand, check hem out! It makes a great 1-2 punch with The Walking Dead
Is it just me or has this series re-established itself as really good in only two episodes after the break? I've lost my cynicism about it and am totally stoked all over again. Even the soap opera aspect seems to have come back from the dead (bad pun intended.)
I agree, still think these zombies need to SLOW down a little though. Here's a 17 second spoiler clip of this week's episode not seen yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pu_0SR97Ss
thank Frank Darabont for abandoning the show, he would have been happy with the rest of this season consisting entirely of Glen, Hershel, and Rick sitting at the bar shooting the shit about the end of the world.
Okay this is driving me nuts ...... How is that kids leg all fixed up and healed in a day or so WTF ?
I think they were going on the assumption a week or so had passed. I think I heard that in the dialogue somewhere. Still you're not recovering from having your leg impaled on the fence in one week.
I think we'll learn that the kid has special healing powers or something. He'll get shot next week and recover. Like a better zombie to outzombie them all.
My likes about last nights episode: 1) Rick & Shane laying their cards down 2) Andrea telling off Lori 3) Rick finally talking about winter. This endless summer shit has to end. Also Shane staring off at that one zombie in the field in the distance, thinking he might not be here come winter. 4) That zombie in the field in the distance, for some reason it brought me joy. 5) Shane's explanation about Lori and when the zombie apocalypse started. 6) Episode for the most part did not take place on farm or "in the farm's town" 7) Rick showed growth in handling situations (except when he said I'll take him back to think it through another night- that's old Rick) 8 Hope that Shane lives and that this talk has shown him finally Rick has what it takes to be a leader. Dislikes: 1) Shane not being able to handle a few zombies chasing him. Ok you're on the bus they might get through that door but let them, and exit the rear, circle back to car. They can't out run you?! 2) The whole two dead zombie cops next to each other as imagery for Rick and Shane's relationship 3) Shane looks like he out weights Rick by 30 pounds, I find it hard to believe he bested Shane in the fight. Guess he just had Lori rage. 4) Lori- in general. I wish Beth went crazy and plunged that knife in her throat, or the house fell on her, anything.... 5) Shane might be dying soon. Show is going to suck after that. Was never that into Michonne or the Governor to be honest.
Agreed. WD back on track. I was impressed with last night's episode. I too enjoyed the argument between Andrea and Lori. Shane's a dick, but the show will be lacking once he's dead.
Rick should have left Shane behind. Escaping the walkers and making his way back to the farm could have made for an awesome confrontation between him and Rick.
I would've taken the two dead cops as a sign to not hang out with Shane anymore because we'll both end up dead. On the way out I would've shot out some of the bus windows just to be sure he doesn't make it back. So you bust one in my wife, then try to kill me? yeah...you gotta go man. And I wouldn't think much of my wife either if she was up under another guy after what?--a week or two after my "death"? Way to mourn my death, hon. Let me put it this way...I would fight the zombies off for myself--and that would incidentally protect her--but if she's upstairs about to get chomped on and I don't feel like running upstairs because I just feel like a lazy-ass...well...Lori and Shane Jr. can pay my douchebag best friend my respects. shouldn't take long.
I might be with you on your thoughts about Lori, were it not THE FUCKING APOCALYPSE. Sure her husband may have just died, but it was the end of the world. All rules get thrown out the window at that point. She was scared and in danger and needed comfort
Anyone else wonder if it's the wisest thing to go around stabbing (and shooting at close-range) zombies when they have open wounds? Especially when they are cutting themselves now...I'm pretty sure Rick and/or Shane should have been infected from that last episode
I was thinking about this also. Especially when Rick was under the pile of freshly killed zombies. As well when you can see his face covered in zombie blood. The rumor I heard is that everyone is infected and it's just a matter of time before they change. Case in point when Shane notices that the two cops have no bite wounds. This could have also been what Jenner said to Rick at the CDC. But again this is just speculation. Just like we are going to loose 2 main character within the next 3 epps.
After meeting with these guys Saturday, David made sure Robert Kirkland understood yesterday what would happen if any of his favorite characters bite the dust in the next few episodes of Season 2:
from last weeks episode i remember hershel repaired the tissue as much as possible, but the kid wasnt to walk on it for a week or so... so im assuming that the week or so passed. I was laughing a good bit when i saw his neck duct taped to the seat
Some Max Toys at one booth, and lots of action figures and such. No real vinyl. Great weekend for comics and Walking Dead signings every day.
