Indie DIY show out of Munky King in Los Angeles, Taste of the Orient had its second show since its inception just this past weekend, and it was great. Fantastic offerings from various artists, the gallery space was great, tight knit. Felt very intimate with a lot of good people and solid attendance. I didn't purchase, or even enter for drawing, but I did drive out just to hang and see the show for my own two eyes. It was very well worth it! Great job and a tip of the hat to Jerry, Sam and Tyler! Already lookin' forward to next year! Spoiler
Thanks, Jon! I got in rather early, four hours give or take, so I was able to get some intimate looks at each piece. And the dudes were gracious enough to allow me access for photographing them, as well! Watching the process of this show get set up was pretty interesting, too, from the aspect of never having seen a show be set up at all! I'm only privy to convention booth set ups!
Thanks a bunch, Bryce. There were a lot of really, really good peeps and collectors in the building. Lots of newer faces from my time of getting involved, but also a lot of OG's that I know have stayed alongside the better part of early 2000's and pre. Not sure exactly how many people here scored, but hopefully we'll see some photo drops!
Looks like a great show. Would love to have been there... Soaking up the eye candy vicariously through your pristine pics is a much-appreciated consolation. Thank you Robert!
What a compliment! Thank you, Sam!!! I'm always more than happy to strive for getting decent eye candy for the boards, and I'm happy to have delivered!
Thank you, Mark! To be able to embody a physical presence through photos is a new achievement I can now say I've achieved!
Absolutely amazing detail and coverage visually Robert. This looks like a very well represented and executed show. I will for sure make it to one in the future. Beautiful.
I got to say, this has been one of the most fun I've had at a one-night show. It was really cool to hang out with Paul Kaiju and Cevin Key, as well as handshakes and hugs with several boardies and IGers. Asahi beer didn't hurt, either. I could not believe I got the Karma Dokuro, I was called like 10th or something. I am personally grateful for the opportunity to have this toy, as well as to get to hang out with a bunch of weirdos for one night in our love of weird toys. Robert, your love of the game is beyond reproach, I can't believe you drove out just for the show. I almost wimped out because of a 40 mile drive, haha.
Eric, extremely well executed! It’d do you well to make the trek for not only the show, but also LASK hangs too! Victor, I was stoked to see you there, dude! Even more stoked that you came up on that Karma Dokuro! I didn’t buy anything ‘cause I had no funds, but last year’s show was too good lookin’ to miss. Had to come out and show love! Plus, the hangs and conversations were more the worth the trek. Though driving to and from Phoenix to LA in one day was a little overbearing.
cheers for the pics, looks like a fun show ..the Karma Dokuro is such a stand out piece.Def on the look out for one this year.
Much appreciated, Doom! The Dokuro were very much in a league of their own. Such a simplistic sculpt, but complicated, intricate paints! Very striking pair.
awesome pics and great looking space. kudos to the crew who put on the show and to you robert for making the trip out!
Thanks, Toby! The drive and hangs were more than worth it. And I’m stoked to have been able to witness such a well put together show! I had a blast!
Ah man, thanks for the photos--looks like it was fantastic. Would have really liked to be there. I moved out of LA about 2 years ago and seeing this stuff kills me! Looking forward to getting back.
No better time than now, dude. Lots of great shows and artists putting out solid toys! Just gotta know which ones are worth payin’ attention to!
