I want to thank anyone and everyone that has shown interest in the Blk Clvd Brand this first year it been around. I have some announcements in the next couple of days I will be sharing here.

So I wanted to start doing thing a little differently. I figured I would bring all the updates I did on IG here but with a more detailed outlook on them and hopefully open things up for opinions and conversation.

Sata Fighter:
This collaboration with Joe is obviously very important to me. One good walk through the Splurrt Thread shows just how much I respect and admire Joe. In the past he had done a sewer creep run and it was fun to do the mash ups but being able to say that this is a mutually discussed and collaborated figure is a really big deal to me. The Sata Fighters will in fact have a story within the Kvltvs Universe. I don't want to go to in detail about that but I will say that everything I do toy wise with Blk Clvd fits into the grand scheme of this universe and will continue to do so. The Sata Fighter will for sure be elaborated on and most likely in a mini book at some point.

UADA.
The idea and concept behind UADA is very simple. If you have seen the Kvltvs Map of the planet Nocturnas there is a lot of water. With that in mind I knew that we would need a character not so much obsessed with power and control but one that already has those things. So UADA is a Namor character of sorts with a dash of Lovecraft. With Namor being an inspiration it goes without saying that means Jack Kirby is one as well. Griz and I both being Children of Kirby in the creative sense wanted that to shine in this figure. Uada was the first in the new wave of Kvltvs Figures that are being worked on currently. I like to think of this wave as 1.5 as its an additional set of characters created with the help of some amazing creators but not a whole single vision like wave 1. In a lot of ways that really adds to the depth and layers in the new characters as they are a collection of different thoughts and ideas. Also as in the past Uada is named after a band so listen to Uada.

Tower of Raptus
The first entry into the Kvltvs line that is not sofubi. The Tower Raptus has been on my to do list for quite sometime. As someone will a large Fight Figure collection or even just a large collection of 4" toys (CK Kumon Etc.) I find that presenting them in certain types of spaces can be difficult without the use of risers. With that in mind while having risers to use is great they can add a somewhat plain element to your shelves and I've always wanted an alternative to that. As someone who has been toy collecting there whole life I obviously didn't start in sofubi but rather in American toys and action figures. Because of that I have a strong love for playsets. I can remember being a kid and being obsessed with owning the TMNT Flushomatic Playset or the OOzey. Not big playsets mind you but enough that they added a whole new level of playability to your toys and something to leave them doing when not being played with. That was the inspiration behind the Tower of Raptus, a toyetic riser. Doing these in resin is to ensure a low cost as well as a sturdy base. In addition to the tower three weapons will be included that have been sculpted to fit the Kvltvs hands. I can't thank David (TurtleMilk Studios) enough for all his help on this project. It was a very easy collaboration as he had so much history working at playmates during the TMNT line and knew exactly where I was coming from. On the Metal side of things the tower is named after an Electric Wizard song as well as Raptus being Latin for Seized. Basically meaning whoever is standing in it has seized the tower.

BÖLZER
Bolzer is the second completed figure in this wave of Kvltvs and is heading to Japan with Uada. Bolzer is a member of The Order of the Leech which should be explained in book 3 of Kvltvs. Not to much to say character wise as I don't want to ruin the story but definitely looking forward to telling it. Design wise Bolzer is a mixed bag of inspirations. Theres a touch of Frankenstein as well as Swamp thing and even Eddie from Iron Maiden while those are all things both Griz and I love the references all serve purpose as the Character they speak too is very specific. Bolzer will be the first wounded Kvltvs fighter in terms of appendages coming with his amputated arm. This fun piece of gore being not so much a vital story component but admittedly a fun homage that couldn't be resisted. I have strong fondness for this character and I feel it will shine in the upcoming releases and paint apps.

So that's everything that was dropped information wise this week. While this is of course not everything going on with the line it is the key talking points at the moment. I will say that there are some surprises heading to Japan as well right now, and in addition to that much more on currently getting worked on. Again feel free to comment I always look forward to talking toys. Thats what SB does best.

 

First and foremost, I have to point out what’s to love about the Kvltvs line is that it’s following in the traditions of Secret Base and Ggml, where, the bodies are the central hub of the fighters. That being the only common factor, constant changing heads and arms bring such a wide variety of character depth and lineup diversity.

Secondly, it has to be given a tip of the hat towards the expansive stories on both the characters and the overall universe. Fight figures don’t necessarily need those backstories, but I think it’s really fun that Kvltvs has them. There’s such a great value of 80’s commercial action figures here, and it’s awesome that so much of that shines through the multitude of aspects displayed. I’m lookin’ forward to seein’ more and more happenin’ here.

And lastly, congrats on the official Splurrt collab. The mashup was fuckin’ fantastic at Five Points, and I’m way stoked it’s officially grown into its own, realized character!

 

Thanks Robert I will say that I think the main goal for me when I started the line was to marry the two things I love about toys which was first the story based action figure lines of the 80s MOTU Transformers Gi joe. The second of course being sofubi and what brought me to it which is the fight figure. I feel like a lot of the time western makers can focus to much on eastern ideas and aesthetics so I wanted to take it and treat it as a platform and be respectful to everything that came before while adding a different western style to it. That’s why the characters have back stories and the world building is so prominent.

 

So glad to see you driving the fightbfigures hard in 2020 and beyond Mikee! You know I’m on board if I can help! And the tower as a small playset/riser is a fun idea! Is it going to be solid resin, or can you do like hollow slush casting? Or do I just not know what I’m talking about.l?

 

@hellopike The tower totally reminds me of the Ggml fight ring coin banks. That’ll be such an awesome display piece by itself, but tucking a fighter in and around will look so rad.

 

Solid casting will probably be the case we may change it If the weight is to out of hand but I’m suspecting it will be light enough that we can keep shipping affordable on them and keep them at a fair cost. I love those Gargamel Ring Banks I’d say those and the Flushomatic from TMNT or Point Dread for MOTU are the major inspiration for Tower Raptus
