I love Root Beer, but unfortunately I can't find it here in mexico, once in a while I just found the commercial brands like A&W and Hansen's in tiny mini-markets
I wanna try the Rat Bastard
There's some burger joint in Alsip, IL or maybe Midlothian, that made it's own root beer and sold it in recycled milk gallons. Ruled, it tasted awesome and looked so bootleg. PLUS root beer is a good ingredient for making killer BBQ sauce.
that suck danlord! but if it makes you feel any better, rat bastard actually sucks
I love root beer!
yes I know it sucks, but next time I'm in USA I'll try to track some from the list
which ones are your favorites?
my favorites are boylans, virgils and stewarts... but thats why i'm doing this, to find out which is the favorite. ill be having people at work and friends help with the judging. i should be starting it sometime this week.
here's the bracket:
i like IBC personally.
Boylan's Root Beer and their other flavors are 100% exactly how soda should taste. One sip of that stuff and you realize how syrupy, crappy and flavorless most modern sodas are.
Virgil's rules...They even make mini kegs of it.
Anyone remember Hire's Rootbeer? I don't think they make it anymore, but it was damn good as well.
where's this one?
I grew up on Hire's. I think they were taken over by the makers of Dr. Pepper/Snapple. You can still find it in cans at some stores.
One of the best soda stores I've ever been in is here in LA. Galco's Soda Pop Stop have around 450 different varieties of soda and 500 different beers. When I have visitors who wax nostalgia about a certain soda/beer that they can't find any more I take them there just to watch their reaction.
and this one
i don't drink it much any more (just diet coke with lime for me now when it comes to soda) but when i did in college there was no better rootbeer than virgil's. i kills all other rootbeers by a longshot.
I'm with Kirkland on this.
However, IBC is a bit too sweet sometimes.
Weinhard's only ok to me.
kemper's & weinhart's both have honey in them so i don't drink them. others have been left out as well because i had to cut it off somewhere and i felt 40 was a good number.
the majority of these were bought at Galco's & BevMo. The Avery's was shipped to me from New Britain, CT.. I had to have a little taste of home in this thing.
Surprisingly I've had a few of those.
root beer is a guilty pleasure of mine now, so if you want help judging i'd love to help out
I'll have to track down Virgil's.
every S7 party should have atleast two virgil's party kegs on hand
or at least the events that you'll be at
Can I be a guest judge while in town?
yes... ill set up something
Sparky's is my favorite. Been drinking it since it was only available around their home in Pacific Grove. I use to pick up a few cases every time I went through Carmel (which was often). I told Galco's about it and they started carrying it a week later. Can't get enough of it. If anyone tries it, I suggest drinking it cold, poured in a chilled glass with no ice.
I hope to participate in this as well Scott.
