Marmit is awesome. I love the originality, detail and colors. I just wish they were not so hard to find! I feel I have been looking for cryptids and biollantes forever. And the worst part is that as I search for them, I am constantly discovering NEW marmits (new to me) that I did not previously know about. I am afraid that by the time I find the ones I want, I will have spent every dime on the ones I discovered along the way!
Newbie here, so forgive any dumb questions. I am fairly new to kaiju and vinyl. Up until now, I've collected mostly gashapon yokai figures. I have been searching unsuccessfully for some time for Marmit Cryptids, both sets (I assume there are only two anyway). Gashapon figures are so much easier to track down so I am getting frustrated. I am curious to know how rare these are and if there is any place I should be looking besides ebay, yahoo japan, and Mandrake. Also want to find the Moth Man figures and i don't even know how many of those there are. Did Marmit make any other cryptids or monsters from folklore? How often do they come up for sale? cindy
I can only think of five: Gray Alien Hopkinsville Alien Pascagoula Alien Flatwoods Monster Mothman The first four were first sold about 10 years ago, packaged in folded clear plastic boxes. There may have been one or two versions of the Gray and Hopkinsville Aliens released later. I don't think they made any other versions of the Pascagoula Alien. The Flatwoods had 2 more versions sold around 2006, one is GID and one is the clear version above. Marmit started producing the Flatwoods again around 2008 and there have been quite a few versions released in the past few years. Around the same time, they finally made a Mothman. There are 2-3 versions of the Mothman, off the top of my head. Marmit also made two sets of alien/cryptid finger puppets. The first set comes in both normal color and GID vinyl. These were from around 2003 as well, I believe. None of them show up very often, unfortunately. I can't think of any other places to check.
^ That's a really nice night pic man, and with the snow also thrown in there really gives a sort of magical effect to it all
Finally scored the GID version, thanks G Marmit Nuppeppo by The Moog Image Dump, on Flickr Nuppeppo glow shot by The Moog Image Dump, on Flickr
Don't care how shit you think it is – I like it I thought he was just an unpainted regular version until he arrived and I put them side by side…
i notice there are many Marmit unpainted vinyl selling on mandarake. Congrat u managed to get the best one!!
After all these years that glow Transforming Man is still a favorite in my collection. Nice pick up Ian.
Such a great sculpt... I was never all that hot for the regular (Vinyl Paradise) Marmit Matango, but this transforming dude is tops.
Is it okay to ask questions about Marmit versions here? I have a lot of questions about the Marmit cryptids. Curious to know : Green Martian - was it ever produced? I know they did a regular bronzy-gold version and a glittery gold version, but the website shows a fairly recent (should have been out fall list year) glowy green martian. But I cannot find pics that are not stock pics or any reference to anyone actually having one anywhere. Kappa - how many versions of this? Website shows one, dark green. But I have seen a glow version and also a pic here on skullbrain that is a similar dark green, but glittery. Not sure if it is the regular one or not. Hopkinsville Alien - I have seen the unpainted glow, but never the green one pictured on the marmit site. Was it produced? Grey Alien - website shows an unpainted glow version. Is this the only one? Mothman - are there just 3 versions (black, brown, green)? Flatwoods Monster - I know there is one coming out soon, but how many were produced before (not counting customs)? Website shows three in archives, but I have seen at least five or six in pics on the web. and, lastly, Triffids - I see three on the website, one that is reddish, one greenish, and one that is blackish. But I own a glittery green version. Wondering if this is the one on the website and if the stock pics are not exactly how they look when they come out sometimes. Any help appreciated..... cindy
If it is on the Marmit website, it was produced. Generally, Marmit's website is pretty complete from 2006 and on. There is an older one (pre-website) that is also unpainted GID (well, the eyes were painted). Not sure whether the two sculpts are different. That sounds about right. The other two are probably the full-color and GID versions that were produced before Marmit started cataloging its releases on its website. The oldest one on Marmit's website is the clear version from 2006. I also have an unpainted GID Marmit Flatwoods, but I think this was a test shot of the GID version and not an actual production version. For customs, I can only recall one, which was the custom done for Toy Karma 2 by Marmit's owner, Akamatsu-san. Were there any others?
Thanks for the help. I am searching for these marmit cryptids for my cryptid collection and it really helps to know what is out there. cindy
