And if you are, what are your thoughts? Have you read the books?

I'm liking it so far. It's not mind-blowingly fantastic, but I'm definitely in for the long haul. I know nothing of the novels, never even heard of them before the show started.

I'm so sad that this series will be over for the year in just a couple of hours... Quarry is easily the best hour-long on the air right now - such an immersive world, perfectly paced and with just the right amount of jet-black humor. I love how the story is told through characterization and camera work - all too rare these days - and it's so damn refreshing to see a period show that doesn't superimpose a 'modern' morality on top to attempt a retroactively 'correct' message. Everything is deliciously unkempt, too; even the cigarette ash needs a haircut. The use of music, both diegetic and tracked, might not have a finer parallel in all of TV - makes me pine even harder to have been of drinking age in the the Memphis of the early '70s. Shit, did it really take me this long to get to the cast? Straight perfection, down to the last extra. They really have created a character actor's paradise over there, and the lot of them knock it out of the park. Oh, and DAMN do they know how to end an episode!

    Fully sold and highly smitten.

Gotta respect a show that doesn't need to base it's entire existence on good versus evil.

When he went to the guy's house who had just fucked his wife I was all nooo don't kill him!

Once I saw he was listening to the record he couldn't find anywhere at his own house I was all kill that piece of crap!

I cannot believe they cancelled this show. They said it had very good ratings and great reviews but a new head at the channel it aired decided the new year would go in a different direction so this and Outcast are axed. Wouldn't even let the show writers/producers/actors take the already written season to a different network. Fucking bullshit.

That sucks ass. I liked Quarry more than Outcast, but would have watched new seasons of both.

Shit news. Both were high up on my list of favorites from last year, Quarry being very nearly perfect, and I was very much looking forward to seeing where their stories carried me. Add The Knick into the mix, and Cinemax was looking to me like the secret weapon of pay cable. I guess they've decided that they prefer to go back to being completely useless again.

Wow.. I had just assumed it was a self-contained first season with the way that it ended.

Oh man, The Knick was so very good. I forgot that all of these were on Cinemax. What the hell are they thinking??

Season 2 of Outcast did actually get made and it released like season 1 but for some inexplicable reason it ONLY aired on Fox UK and not anywhere else. No US release was made or even announced. So if you really want to see season 2 which ended a couple of weeks ago you'll have to find it secondhand. I think it was 10 episodes long.
