ok here is my reaction.. i think its a shame if you really BELIEVE pushead did all these gimmicks 1st, every element used has been used prior to pushead including marbled vinyl. i use the word gimmick as some technique or application used to make a product stand out from prior releases. i drew from my personal influences which the only thing i will assume of pushead is that he does his thing from his influences as well because there is no other way. maybe i am misreading your words and you are actually using sarcasm but why keep attacking something you have no interest in otherwise? certainly you have better things to focus on especially after i explained point blank what influenced me to doing the dark carnival versions of the MVH figure, or are you attacking for another more personal reason? i dont care if you hate, means nothing to me but check out some history on the things you are claiming are being ripped here and you will see a cylical industry that is deeply rooted in dark carnival motif and process. if you like i can post a pictures of a vinyl toy in a glass jar from the early 90s, a vinyl alien fetus figure in a jar from the late 80s, a ratfink put out in a can as a kit in the 70s and on back in time we travel.. btw.. just for fun beaK made a small batch of plastic siamese baby skeletons and released them almost the exact same time the 2 headed Bemon 1st appeared, which also predates pushead doing any siamese figure release so i guess went back in time to i rip him off then as well?
Was that and expanation? . . . All I got was blah blah blah, middle-earth mumbo jumbo, blah, blah, blah . . . Definitely not a personal attack . . . I got no idea who you are! You guys are waaaaay defensive, sorry if a nerve got touched!
Rich climbing back in the ring with two black eyes and a broken nose. What a site to behold. You shoulda took Toybotstudios advice.... This has been an entertaining thread and the controversy makes the toys more appealing to me. I agree with both sides. I guess the question is what is the difference between and homage and a rip? Eye of the beholder? Seriously, I want a demon in a jar now! and the cyclops slays any way you cut it.
As was stated before....all of these design elements have been done before...pre-Rich, pre-Pus....etc. And yes, they seem to pop back up in cycles. I guess where the confusion originates here is that three major elements that are associated (not exclusively mind you) with Pushead have appeared in Rich's releases in a relatively short amount of time. I'm sure if only one element was used or if this was done when the cyclical design period had time to come around again then no one would be questioning its origins. It's like stippling wasn't invented by Pushead either. Does anyone feel if they incorporated stippling into the design they wouldn't be called out? Or could mount a plausible defense?
yeah. when i see these, i really don't see a connection with pushead. i think you give scaryandy and locomoto too much credit if you think they've created controversy.
just all part of the hype machine.... .... good job on your toys in general Rich, keep it up! FUCK THE HATERS.
Devil's advocate... is the issue here the criticism, or the way it was delivered? I couldn't care less about any Pushead vibes because I don't like Pushead or the Sludge Demon (sorry, Rich!), but a potentially valid point was brought up in an antagonistic fashion, and all I see is a dickrider brigade coming to the blind defense of something they like and can't bear to see anyone criticize. There's three, maybe four people in almost three pages of responses with an intelligent (and intelligible!) thing to say. Someone made a comparison to Kozik and said that we were going to 'run a creative type off the board'. That's horseshit. Nothing against Rich personally, but if you can't take a critique, then you have no place offering your shit 'to the masses'. Some of you guys' noses must be permanently stained at this point. I think it's often a fine and arbitrary line between homage and 'a little more than a homage'. That line IS arbitrary, though, so if you like something and it influences you, then that's just how it's going to be. You just have to know that for some people the line is skewed one way or another.
Well, I just agree with someones post up there, Rich shouldn't care what other people think, as long as he loves doing it. After all, it seems like a hobby that blossomed into something much more.... Rich put his time and I'm guessing a shit ton of money to break into scene and make his own toy. And yes, I like the stuff he's coming out with, I'm a fan. So Rich has my support.... Dick-riding/brown nosing? Maybe from your point of view. With that said I'm all for constructive criticism, but calling someone a biter isn't constructive at all....
My comment regarding Kozik was in jest, and directed ONLY at Rich's words which I quoted...because it sounded like something that Kozik often said ("why do I bother" or something along those lines). I surely wasn't comparing Rich to Frank - Rich has more artistic talent in his morning stool than Kozik ever had.
I am aware Metal and hardcore culture and skulls do nothing for me and have never had an impact on me creatively.
dude, Warhammer is pretty metal. Lots of skulls too so I guess I don't get it. it's cool though. whatever floats your indie canadian twins.
That's true. Warhammer is really the only thing I dig with skulls that prominent in it, and truth be told, I tend to play down the skulls on my models. I much prefer the eagle and angel motifs on the Marines.
