@Roger Oh, man. Where to even begin. Long story short when covid happened they shut down the publishing department to siphon funds to keep everything else alive. Once publishing came back they got a new head for it and he deemed the project not worth it. We then began speaking about doing it independently last year, but that sort of fizzled out. One half of the pair that brought me into Mondo’s sights has since left Mondo, also. I’ll have to dig back into seein’ what can be done, if anything.

That's a real bummer @xSuicide Squadx I was really looking forward to this as I imagine you were too. I'm sure this has crossed your mind already but I would gladly throw money at this project if it were a Kickstarter. I also can't imagine what an undertaking that would be so it makes sense that things are in limbo.

@Brooklyn_Vinyl I appreciate the hell out of that, Jonathan. A lot. I actually just spoke with one of the dudes that brought me on and he’s gonna take it up with the GM again soon. Told me if we get a green light I could start shooting mid 2023. And if not through Mondo, though that’d be ideal, there are enough interested parties that we’d get it goin’ independently. I’ll keep pushing and over time and see what comes of it.

Ah bummer. I was wondering if the Funko acquisition had something to do with the delay. Hope it moves forward again, somehow, somewhere.

Sounds like a lot of bureaucracy bullshit and too many Chiefs, not enough Indians.

I said at the time that self-publishing ain't rocket science . . . and it's only gotten easier over the last 3 years.

A photobook of dollys ain't the Gutenburg bible!

Yeah, but you can fuck up a book project badly if you don't know what you're doing, like going with a cheaper printing method that won't work with the photography, or if you have inexperienced people doing layout. One of the most frustrating purchases I've had in the past couple of years was receiving a book about Kenner Star Wars that is at least 150 pages, I think (keep reading to see why I say "I think") that has NO PAGE NUMBERS. No TOC or index either. I contacted the guys who put it out and they said that it was their first time publishing a book, and that they actually liked it because it gave it a "scrapbook" sort of feel. I didn't agree.

    'Failure is success in progress'

I'm of an age where I possibly have more ideas and projects I'd like to do, than time left to complete 'em! Putting stuff off and holding out until 'the planets to align' is a mugs game. It sounds like Mondo had the opportunity, and screwed the pooch.

. . . but if limbo is your happy place, who am I to burst bubbles.

I wasn't saying it shouldn't be done, I was saying it should be done right. You can say "self-publishing ain't rocket science" and that may be true when your book project is only text, but this project is a more complex than that.

Probably isn’t, but I haven’t the knowledge, experience or especially funding at the moment to do any of it. So that’s my personal hang up. I’m not a designer, I don’t know shit about layouts, don’t know how to render or put images together in any sort of program; nothin’. I’m just a nerd with a camera and too much time on occasion. I’m sure the decision to pull back on the book didn’t come lightly, and it’s probably a decision that was made to keep other, bigger projects alive. As long as it’s still a possibility, I’m more than ready, willing and able to do my part. Just can’t do it alone. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
