Did a short search and didn't find a similar thread. Comic book movies and TV-shows are mainstream now. A catch all thread could work here to discuss the interesting ones. I saw Age of Ultron yesterday and it was a Very Good blockbuster. Made me want to read comics and buy the merch. Will see it again. Love the character design on Vision. I'm curious about Daredevil, anyone like it? Haven't seen a single episode yet.
I binged the Daredevil show, and thought is was pretty good. Never read the comic. It wasn't perfect, but the cast was really solid, and I liked how much time they spent developing the Kingpin character. I also enjoyed watching Daredevil's fighting style. I'm no aficionado of martial arts, but they have him using his whole environment to gain leverage when fighting, which fits well will his powers. I'm looking forward to the other Marvel NY shows coming up. Fingers crossed they have the same level of quality.
Actually loved Daredevil but was drawn in because of Vincent D'onofrio who is a fantastic actor. I was intrigued by Suicide Squad based on the director but the new Joker picture irritates me. Would have been great without the tattoos....unless all they are clues to what type of joker jared leto will be.
i agree with Bryce... i havent seen Daredevil yet but Detective Goran Pvt Pile is my main reason for wanting to watch it. i've enjoyed Gotham, it's kind of cheesy but for being on network tv it isn't bad. and they have a bunch of cool car throughout it. I caught Punisher Warzone on tv the other night. I dont care what most people say it rules... so much over the top violence and McNulty is a funny ass jigsaw.
Daredevil was great! I haven't watched any of the other Marvel/DC TV so I cant compare but if they are anywhere near as good as Daredevil was then I'll give them a shot. I've always been a fan of The Flash so might check that out next.
The Flash is fantastic.. was never a fan of the character until watching the new series. I grew up reading comics so it's amazing to see all of these characters on screens everywhere but for some reason I've got no interest at all in seeing Avengers 2.. Not sure if it's due to too much of a good thing or always thinking of The Avengers as a team of dorks back in the 80s. X-Men were always top dogs.
I enjoy the new Flash and I love that his dad (in the show) was in the old Flash show which I also enjoyed back in the day. Gotham is fun, but I have to thank you guys for putting me on Daredevil. I loved the comic as a kid and I enjoyed the first two episodes.
I binge watched Daredevil too. Best Comic based series yet imho. I also watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which is getting better and better. I cannot wait to see how Age of Ultron (Go see it! It has its flaws but is still great!) will effect the show and how they will keep setting up the Inhumans - a Movie that will come out in 2018. Agent Carter was awesome, too. I really hope we will get a second season. Can't wait for A.K.A. Jessica Jones and the Iron Fist series - Marvel is setting up the Defenders! (They also kind of hinted on Iron Fist in Daredevil.) I really hope they all will be involved in the Civil War story line (next Captain America Movie). I just love the world building Marvel does - everything is canon and happens in the same universe. As for DC, I really like their TV shows much more than their movies. Arrow is really good and the Flash is ok (it is a little too silly at times). Well, it is just a great time for superhero fans I was positively surprised by Gotham but lost interest after a few episodes. The main characters kept getting dumber and dumber and they sacrificed a good story line (the mob wars) just to hint on every future Batman villain. Also, I want to slap Bruce Wayne all the time. But maybe The Dark Knight Rises just spoiled Batman for me forever.
Ant-Man. Wow, Marvel, just wow. Different, funny, surprising, exciting. What a great movie. As (almost) always with marvel movies the villain is not fleshed out enough. Imho one of Marvel's best. Cannot wait for Phase 3. PS: I still would love to see the movie Mr. Wright would have made.
Just saw Antman last night, best Marvel Studios film! And yes, Daredevil has to be the best thing released by marvel so far. Eagerly waiting for the punisher vs daredevil series!
I just saw Ant-Man today, and came away pleasantly surprised. I was expectantly very little from it, and it was quite entertaining. Silly yes, but takeaway the comic/superhero aspect of it, and it works just as an action comedy/heist film. I was really expecting not to like Paul Rudd or Corey Stoll in their respective roles, but actually Rudd was okay. As you said, he could have been fleshed out much better and the villainy set up better, but it worked for what it was. Far different than the serious fare of other Marvel films (even with their set up comedic lines). And that is exactly what you need to present for a 'hero' like Ant-Man. I would have dialed it down a notch or two, and changed some of the cliched character roles, but it is a fun family flick. Better than a lot I have seen, and will probably be leaps and bounds ahead of what is to come (FF I am looking at you). It is a pity they made it an origin story, because they have spent so much time devoted to setting up the story, and after developing a decent character by the end of the film, I am not sure he will see much in any follow-up appearances on the screen. But this is Marvel/Disney we are talking about, so if the film does even moderately well I am sure they will.... [cough].... make use of that. Go see it. For a film about a relative unknown superhero character, in a summer of fairly poor offerings, I think it is at least an enjoyable change of pace and worth a small investment of time for what it gives you.
I try to watch all comic based anything right now- though I'm lagging behind by a week and haven't started Supergirl yet. VERY excited to start Jessica Jones, and also a little nervous because Purple Man scares the shit out of me and aside from not actually being the color of his namesake, it looks like Tennant nails him.
I binged through Jessica Jones over the weekend. What a great show. It is really dark (so dark, it makes Daredevil look like a fairy birthday party) but not dark without purpose/reason (are you taking notes, Snyder?). Everyone's performances are excellent. Tennant is so vile and menacing it is disgusting. The world building is brilliant - so much things they hinted at / built up for the future. I cannot wait for Luke Cage.
Loving it so far, and I agree that its way darker than daredevil. I recommend watching it late night!
I watched Jessica Jones last weekend LOVED every second of it I even think I liked it more than Daredevil. Maybe im just being a grump but I wasn't all that impressed with the trailer for Civil War there just wasn't anything about it that made me feel like i HAD to see that movie. Not saying im not gonna see it just very underwhelmed by the trailer.
I agree, i havent finished JJ yet but i think I will end up liking it more than DD. And I loved DD. Felt the same about Civil War but that scene where they are beating the crap out of iron man was awesome. Never was an Iron man fan movies & comics so that was a nice touch.
I quite liked the trailer for Civil war. There are some great things that got me excited - like Black Panther outrunning Cap, Tony saying he WAS Cap's friend, the Bucky/Cap vs Iron Man fight - that alone makes me want to see the movie. But there are other things that get me intrigued even more - bringing back a classic Hulk opponent in Thunderbolt Ross (I just love it when they keep building a continuous universe and setting up possible future storylines), not showing all the Avengers that will partake in the fight (Ant-Man, Vision, Spider-Man!?), not showing the (or one?!) antagonist (Zemo) and I still don't know what character Marting Freeman will be playing (you get a glimpse of him). I really think I should avoid future trailers . . .
That trailer for BvS . . . mh, CGI overkill, Doomsday (?) looking like a crossbreed between a LOTR cave troll and the second Hulk movie's Abomination. Also, why show him at all? If a movie is called X vs Y I do not want the trailer to show me that there will be a Z that X and Y will have to take on together. With the help of W(W). The Jesus allegories (again) are a bit much. I like Affleck as Batman though. He looks really good brooding in the different suits. Don't know about Luther yet. I hope there is some character development in the movie that gets him from goofy to menacing somehow. But it's a Snyder movie . . . character arcs are not his thing. I wonder if this trailer was put together in a rush to counter the Civil War trailer . . .
Netflix is doing an awesome job at producing all these Marvel shows. So far I like Jessica Jones best and Dare Devil is a close second. to me Agents of Shield is a great show but I like the darkness of Jessica Jones and Dare Devil best.
I cannot quite believe it, but if Deadpool fulfills what the trailer and their awesome viral campaign are promising this will be the best (and truest to the source) comic book movie ever!? Maybe I just got myself caught in a hype loop but the more they release the more I get excited...
