So there's a new Magic The Gathering set coming out that has a theme of "giant monsters". There are chase versions of some cards in this set that have variant artwork depicting a Toho monster. Figured some folks on here would dig it. Here's a link to a gallery of the alternate art cards: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articl...ery/ikoria-lair-behemoths-variants-2020-04-03
This is pretty cool, I just read about it on another site. I don't play Magic, but like the idea of making these cards as an interesting expansion. I would have liked to see more 'classic' versions, but I like how there are actually different iterations of the characters included in the deck.
Don’t think it’s gonna pull me back into the game, but boy do I want a set of these. A real blessing for EDH/Commander players!
One of the cards has already been modified due to current events: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/statement-spacegodzilla-2020-04-02
Yes, it has been planned [after the fact] to be pulled altogether from the cards, and will not be available at all as a digital release (see alteration below). While I can see this, I also think you have to give people some credit, "corona" is an entirely valid word, and its use in the context of the virus is entirely because of this meaning it has. Also, you can already see, after the fact that hundreds of thousands of these packs have apparently already been shipped, how this is going to be the new 'exclusive' card everyone will seek to flip for thousands of dollars afterwards. Which is only going to drive up their sales. So, I dunno, hooray capitalism? The damage here is already done.
