Saw a little blurb on adult swim about this, so I looked into it. I'm pumped, especially for Ninja Scroll, that movie blew my mind when I first saw it back when I was a teenager. Looks like both projects rest in good hands. http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/11/10/ ... nja-scroll
ugh.... Ninja Scroll should not be messed with. Shit, they couldn't even make any sequels as good as the original. How is a live action movie going to deliver the justice?
Ninja Scroll blew my mind. I hadn't really ever seen anime like that before. So fucked and awesome. I'm sad to see it being messed with. I think it's safe to say there is no chance it will compare.
both will blow. the dude writing the akira script (garry whitta) has done a bunch of other stuff regarding anime and videogames though so i'm hoping it won't be that awful. i'm more worried about the oldboy remake.
Why are American filmmakers the only ones arrogant (or ignorant) enough to think they need to re-make films that were perfect the first time around?
Ugh, Ninja Scroll too!! This is awful. What can be improved on in these films?! These movies don't need to be remade, just enjoyed as is! The manga series Basilisk works as a cool prequel to Ninja Scroll if you haven't read it. The anime for it is ok as well.
Has anyone seen the Highlander Anime by the same director as Ninja Scroll? Sounds like an awful idea I know- but trust me its fucking amazing! If you havnt seen it- do it right now.
they remake anime/manga into movies in other coutries too. golgo-13 deathnote dragonball it just reaches a broader audience and maybe opens up that movie-only audience to something they may not have known about otherwise
Yeah, but the Sonny Chiba Golgo 13 was badass. The HK Dragonball...not so much. As for LA Akira? Well, it can;t be any worse than the LA Fist of the North Star, right? Right??
well, yeah it was badass... maybe these can be also. oh, sailor moon was a live action tv show too! haha
I guess I'll be optimistic, but it's hard. Those movies are excellent as they are. I kinda' feel the same way about comic book movies. After reading comics most of my life it's really tuff to be enthusiastic about most of the movies made using them as a basis. I have been pleasantly surprised from time to time.
it says Leo will make sure that the movie is true to the originals. ...???? then what's the point of even...* oh, yeah.."$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$" I hope they have an all Asian cast at least and it's set in Japan.
There can be, only one! The OG movie with Christopher Lambert that is. They should have stopped there.
Ok- humor me, heres the trailer: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dC7_COSRIR8 Give it a go, the trailer doesnt even show some of the best bits. I stand by my words though- Fucking Incredible! By the way- I think it is up on youtube in ten parts- to watch the whole thing.
