If you as the reader are clicking the ignore button, then you are censoring yourself, which isn't quite the same as a moderator censoring the content for you.

All of this would be totally unnecessary if, as Alex mentioned, people would pay attention to the "vibe" of the board prior to posting stuff that invites trouble.

A lot of the recent issues we've had could be solved if people would look at what they are saying and think about the value of what they've written---and the tone in which it reads. This board is full of intelligent, creative people, and while everyone should be free to express their opinion, they should be able to do so in a civil manner. That said, I also think that sometimes creative and intelligent people need a slap to the face to snap them back to their senses...it doesn't always need to be a back-handed, Chuck Norris-wannabe slap, but sometimes that is called for as well...

now let's all gather round in a circle, hold hands, and sing a couple of choruses of Kumbaya  ;) 8)

ouch!!! ...ur crossing lines scotty.
to some this might sound even more respectless than
big titted ex-girlfriend threads of last couple days
that have been amusing the least. ;)
    guessing it wasnt intended -
the term "clean" in context with humans was typically used
by fascists in the meaning of ethnical cleansing.

and please leave this board the way it is -
no need to ignore anyone here.
    love u all!!! :D

The board will be the way it is, but maybe there will be ignore button somewhere.
If you never touch or use it, nothing else will be different.

I think we need the kilbillfile function, which causes your keyboard to spurt blood any time you open a hateful/misogynistic/homophobic/racist/yakuza-or-david-carradine-related thread.

An Ignore feature would act to strengthen an "us/them" mentality, which is more divisive than constructive.

If the goal is community strengthening, why not focus more on constructive moves like stickying a "Good Trader" thread.

Anyway, by and large, I think the mood is still pretty mellow. Besides a couple of recent molehill->mountain incidents, I don't see a whole lot going on that makes me want to run for the hills.

Sure there are a lot of new collectors. But guess what. That's a GOOD thing for Super7.

In my opinion, there's already WAY too much Fresh Meat hazing and self-policing, especially when "OG" collectors step up and haze a "low count" poster for starting threads in the Want or Sell threads. WTH?

New collectors = Growth. I think this board should go out of its way to welcome new folks and, yeah, when necessary, deliver a dollup of tough love. But moves like ignore buttons are too knee jerk - pretty much the current incarnation of the "OG gangups" that used to (and sometimes still do) chase away Fresh Meat collectors. That's the sort of thing the board has, in general, been trying to get rid of, not encourage.

It's good times in kaiju land. There's already plenty of good drama on HBO, eh?

Me, I'd rather shut up and kaiju.

all this chatter about an ignore user button makes me think we might need an ignore thread button too.

Wow, it's like every household buying a gun just to for defense reasons. Sounds so silly.

Then we can have a ignore skullbrain.org and super 7 website feature too?

This is so pointless. All this is doing is creating the very thing you are trying avoid happening on this forum.

I just think its funny reading all this talk about an ignore button when the majority of the votes shows that it makes no sense.

Like mentioned sweeping the problem under the rug is not gonna help. It takes non bias mods to solve issues fast.

I try to stay out of argumentative threads as usually they go nowhere no matter who is right an wrong. Thats my ignore button.

I would put noobs with less than a certain post count or date joined on ignore.
Sorry, but it is what it is. I've done my tour of duty educated folks so others need to step up and take my place.

I'm sorry but that Fresh Meat who posted "bump" for his first two posts is the first one for my ignore/kill file.

I will play devil's advocate and argue that an ignore feature could theoretically create even more noise and confusion. Imagine people posting in threads asking for context cause they have someone on ignore and miss their post.

    Can't win. We're all doomed.

First of all, I can assure you all that I am no fascist and in no way support or condone ethnic or board cleansing  ...poor choice of wording on my part, for a weak anecdote, at best...

Secondly, I'd like to apologize for stirring the pot on this subject. The intention with which this thread was created was good, though apparently it has only sparked more controversy.

I like toys, and, I can only assume that if you are reading this, so do you...

For my part, I guess I'll just stick to gawking at the amazing collections that some of you have and keep my good intentions in one hand, shit in the other, and see which fills up quickest (literalists please note that I will not be crapping in my hand, this is merely a metaphor for the pointlessness of idealism).

I already self censor since I come here less.

If there was an ignore button I wouldn't need to shotgun self censor (come to the SB boards less) but rather could pinpoint censor the asshats ruining the community for me.

The people I plan on ignoring are quite new and they frequently and consistently post stupid, derogatory, and otherwise offensive comments.

I don't want to ignore people who I've had a mature disagreement with or who made an honest mistake.

Its those who consistently post inane tripe and hatespeech I'd ignore.

I ignore them anyway but I do so by withdrawing from the SB community.

I gotta be honest, i don't think that some of the more interesting, or "on to it" board members posting less is gonna do the community any favors. The community needs the older members input, and their knowledge/personality, to thrive.... don't give up on it.

I think a 'thread ignore' feature would actually be quite usefull. I dont think I would need a 'user ignore' feature, because there is no one here I dont care to hear from...

If I could ignore the pre-order list threads etc where people are adding names to lists etc, I would be a happy man.

Now that's actually a good idea! I hate clicking into forums because the star denotes that there's a new post, only for it to be in a thread I couldn't care less about - but then I have to click the thread so the star will go away (I'm kinda anal like that...).

exaclty! we have the 'mark as read' feature, but you still have to go to the trouble every time. I would like to click it once and be done with it. :)

Well, as a Fresh Meat who recently committed a faux pas, I probably have a unique perspective on this...

First, this is a very tough board to get a sense of as a newcomer, even if you lurk for a while. I read through all the rule posts, watched things for a little while, and still a number of things I never gleaned. For instance, I thought it was considered a norm to post "PM'd" on a sales thread, but now I see that people are annoyed by it? How would a newcomer learn that?

Also, as a newcomer I have to say I don't see a ton of activity here that strikes me as awful -- I can't help but think some people here must have very low tolerances if they think this is a board that has "gone to hell" or whatnot. The vast majority of conversation is on-topic, very few people post nasty things with the _intention_ of pissing other people off, and frankly, even when noobs like myself overstep our bounds and post something that in retrospect we probably should have bit our tongues on, the resulting dialogue seems to do pretty well in sorting things out and letting us know when a line has been crossed.

Now, some folks here might be of the mind that the second someone does something annoying, even once, they should be ignored permanently. That doesn't seem to speak very well for the health of the board, and frankly the hobby as a whole, if in some/many ways this board can be considered the nexus for the hobby in the English-speaking world.
