Okay, initially had up a topic asking about an ignore feature, but I've switched it to a poll, just for curiousity's sake...

Will a few rotten tomatoes spoil the whole bunch?---if you know tomatoes, then you know that they often have thin skin and are prone to bruising and exposure to rot will promote more rot...

    lets keep our garden clean!

I think it maybe time to thin the herd...

how about a 3 strikes and your out rule, something where the moderators can give users strikes...
maybe your strike count would reset quarterly, but if you reach 3 in that time your banned from posting...

    just a thought.

I dunno...I've never liked the idea of banning, unless for egregious violations. An ignore feature would make it so if you KNOW someone gets on your nerves, you never have to read their posts but can still read a thread. It may even reduce the occasional arguments that come up. Although, the logistics of adding it may make this discussion a moot point.

Why would anyone think this is necessary? I have a built in ignore feature. If I know that a pariticular board member's posts get on my nerves, I simply don't their posts. I 'ignore' them. Are there people on this board who are incapable of this simple thing? I cringe to even think that this is the case. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding how an ignore feature actually works. Someone please explain to me why an ignore feature is necessary or what the advantage of having one would be. Thanks.

If you add someone to ignore, you won't see their posts. It's annoying because if they post a lot, you won't know what's going on in the thread.

For me there are two issues:

One, there's too much noise and useless posts that one has to wade through in order to find any useful information. An ignore feature would theoretically allow one to put people who offer nothing really meaningful on ignore and hopefully filter out alot of useless posts.

Two, there are the bozos who don't know how to conduct themselves in public forums. While I would prefer to not have to deal with them or acknowledge their existence, I think one needs to keep an eye on them. Otherwise the board will continue to fester and rot even more. This is usually the role of the mods, but they can't be everywhere all of the time.

Muffino and Dross both make the most valid points. And there is no way to meet everyones "needs". People will continue to post "PM'd" no matter how many times someone complains about it, bump their wanted threads when they dont have a valid reason, offend others, the list is endless and hypocrisy is the biggest problem on this board imo, and I KNOW im not alone on that.

So its simple, stay out of the drama, read what you want to read and expect weird and useless topics in the Whatever section (although shouldn't be a haven for adolescent behavior and offensive bs). I have been here practically everday for the last 1.5 years and I still love it, yea its obvious when there is some new meat stinking up the place but really not much can be done. The more japanese toys get popular (and there are plenty of people/stores pushing it out there) the more its going to happen, seems like some people are in denial.

Edit: Just for the record im not saying im for a fake shiny happy rainbow land either, but I guess changes make it feel KRish to me and its easier to simply ignore most of the drama.

Edit2: I miss the old super7 store website, it was very hardcore imo : /

I promise that you won't be on my ignore list.

Maybe we can get all social networkey and trade ignore lists in the future.

I see it as an option not a mandate. Use it if you want otherwise ignore it.
No big deal when you think it through. Next.

how depressing that it has come to this.

I think its time to stop posting and move on.

It was good while it lasted folks.

it feels full of kids here at the mo and it used to feel like an older more sensible crowd.

always loved the whatever section until lately.....talk of politics , world events etc has given way to KR type mush that is so depressing.

MORE MODS OR BAN THESE FOOLS

I've been buying, selling, trading and an active part of Skullbrain for 2 years but have never had so many flakey buyers/trade interests or read so much inane or sadly misinformed bullshit as I have in the last week!

It is indeed drifting into KRappy territory . . . time to break out the pitchforks?

Well said. I've been a member here for going on two years, and, while there have always been some members that I don't necessarily agree with, it's never come to a point that I can't read a post without losing control of my temper. If I consider someone to be a jackass, I discount their opinion, simple as that. And if a thread is annoying and/or offensive to me, I get out of it and go somewhere else.

The vast majority of members here are intelligent adults who have something to say, but (as with any public forum) there are bound to be a few idiots. It's the price you pay. If I recall correctly, there are a few current members that were branded "stupid noobs" at first, but have proved themselves to be valuable contributors. And, as Kontact pointed out, some of the most respected OG members have been responsible for some of the most ridiculous flame wars and sniping.

If people think an ignore feature is necessary, then so be it. But, as we all know, hiding a problem and solving it are two different things.

i know.. your life will feel empty w/o a daily dose of rhinomilk

i actually don't care if there's an ignore feature... and even though there may be more "noise", i'll still browse this forum as long as i'm still interested in this stuff. i'd rather there be too much "noise" than it being too quiet

Y'know...if this option becomes available, you don't have to use it. Obviously, there are enough people that requested this that see this as a valuable tool. If you don't like an "ignore" feature, make a personal decision and just don't use the damn thing. It's not the end of the world as you know it.

IMHO I just think there needs to be more reading and observing needs to be done by the "green" members. I did that for good amount of time before I starting posting regularly. It kept my hazing down to a minimum and I learned what conduct was (basically) acceptable on here.

We were having this same problem a couple of years ago with the forums at ToyboxDx, so the mods installed a 'killfile' function, same thing as the proposed 'ignore'.

I found it to be useless and never actually 'killfiled' anyone. I just didn't read the crap I didn't want to read.

    Bottom line---it's censorship. Not cool.

And turning a blind eye never solved anything.
