Dude, after drinking the Unicorn piss, sober up and think about it. You would be best served with your own forum that you could regulate. Right? You could delete douchebag remarks and such. You could "lock down" threads!!
I allready requested it . so, your dreams of Ghettoizing me can come true. You can then be proud to be a 'pure overman' or whatever silly fantasy you fuel with your toy elitism. Then you can feel that mad rush of PURE POWER. lolz. Unicorn...tastes like chicken.
I remember you lost your own forum before, so having it again probably is not a solution . Not trying to stir up sh*t. I really don't think there is anything wrong with what you have been posting lately. Probably some of it should just go to customs to keep people from complaining... and your collabs be in RxH. Like orders in RxH with a link that goes to the customs section for people who want to read about your development of the collab?
There's no RUSH of pure power. Or some pent-up frustration (from dealing with corporate douchebags all fucking day long) that's unleashed by doing it. And Taro/Geo should take note, cause its the same thing with the endless photo posts. Or maybe we shoudl just not care and eventually the lifestyle types invade and Skullbrain devolves into a hoodie site... Just saying that a number of people liked the "purity" of the early 2006 days and miss that. And get annoyed with all of the "noise". I just want signal not noise. As much as I can get, if possible. Rip away....
i vote keep the site as is...the noise will fade in time and then start all over again as it does each and every time. in the meantime i will zip up my hoodie and hang with chad.
It's this attitude that will kill this place, if the powers that be ever decide to adopt it. And I doubt that they ever will, because this place is connected to a magazine and a series of toys that (theoretically) anyone can walk into a store and buy. Obviously, the stuff we discuss here has a niche appeal, but is there really a reason to exclude and/or marginalize people on top of that? Spend all your time drawing lines, defining who the "cool kids" are, who "belongs" here and who doesn't, and eventually you will have a small group of people high up on a pedestal with nothing to talk about and no room for anyone else. Chad can vouch for what I'm saying. We've seen a few BBSes begin, grow and die in the last ten years, and attitudes like this are often what lead to their downfall. Anyone remember Waist Joint?
Agreed. Forums thrive on being diversified. Excessive scrutinizing can be a turn-off cuz after all it's just forum so take it easy on the 'message board policing'. It's just a post people. Don't like it? Then post something else and bump yours up. Not a fan of Frank's stuff? Then keep it to u'reself, whether u like it or not there are others that appreciate his contributions.
I wonder if that was partly because people didn't know how to find it. I only got there because it morphed from Mark Nagata's board, which in turn morphed from the Bullmark.com board IIRC.
Do tell,, i use to be on an ole alt.toys newsgroup and there was some absolute frickin nut jobs there some they still havn't totaly gotten rid of
I hope this doean't get me banned from buying Frank's stuff...as i do like to buy sometimes. HOWEVER, over the past 5 years I have had some "not so nice" dealings with Frank and wonder how someone who is the way he is at times can expect to be treated with cotton gloves all the time? I like a lot of what Frank does, but does that mean if something comes along that I don't like, and say so here that I will be prevented from buying in the future? it just seems weird to me...I undertand being confused by blatant bashing and then buying, but this is place for opinions, right? Frank doesn't know me from a hole in the wall but I have been blasted by him in the past over a few things (not here but years ago when I was on the other board)...yet I still respect him, his work, and like to buy some of his toys. I own his books, and MANY of the records he did art for...his Velvet Revolution set is one of my prized possessions...Yet, I still think I should be allowed to say if I don't like the latest labbit or [expletive deleted], no? here's hoping that this post won't get me banned as I am SOOOO hoping for a Frank painted Cronic set... best, lalon
After you kill a troll, you need to eat it or feed it to your pet quickly, or put it in an icebox or bag of holding, otherwise it will resurrect. "The bite-covered troll rises from the dead!"
Dibs on the horn if ya kill it,,,by accident that is..hmmm might fetch a bit of $$$ on the bay fo that next RxH purchase
the cool kids have been complaining that this board has been in a state of continual decline for the last 2 years..... I think overall, the board is a more vibrant community with lots of new faces. I actually think there is less elitism now days.
it sucks that if you think someone's work is shoddy and you go against the rest of the ass kissing KR ship jumpers that you risk being told to 'suck it'. frank has taken what was once a very nice and subtley painted toy line (RxH) and 'pickled' it with a bunch of rushed, heavy handed, badly done paint jobs. not to mention that he has milked around 90 of you every couple months for close to 100 bones. lets see what he can ruin for 08!
My 2 cents: Two years ago, there were 25 registered users on this board. It was not pure "signal", there was plenty of noise then as well, but 75% of the people on the board were excited to be here and were still trying to figure out what a Skullbrain vs. a Skullbee was, and had not yet even begun collecting RxH or Gargamel. Bemon, Exohead, Empire and other companies did not even exist yet. I think for all the "back in the day" throwback comments, is that it was all new and exciting. There was something new to be learned every 15 minutes, and people became fast friends. It seemed much more vibrant because it was that much more new and exciting for the reader, even with a much smaller content base, as well as plenty of misinformation. Two years later, that same person may be a bit more bored, as the things they have never heard about are fewer and far between, they know all the releases of the last two years. They need less information from the board, so they see it as less exciting. Those people need to understand that they are in a unique position, and not let the romance get old. To use a bad analogy, they are bored with their girlfriend. Instead, I implore the "original 25" to stay involved. As you know many things the new kids do not, become the beacon of knowledge you searched for back then, and this board might stay interesting. If you expect the board only to give to you, and you never give back, I would be surprised if it stayed interesting for you at all. It will never be free entertainment. You get back what you put into a relationship, and if you are not giving anything, I would expect that you are getting less and less. There are 20 times as many people on this board now, you don't have to be friends with them all, but I bet you can find more than 25 that you enjoy talking to. -brian
To HMS point, I see both sides. I agree, that many of his early custom editions lacked -in my opinion - the effort needed to properly make an edition. They seemed too easy, and were not "finished". Once again, my opinion, but I bought them to keep up my complete sets. Others really liked it though, their opinion. There are plenty of editions I like much less than others. The transition happened with Mutant Evil, it still seemed a bit unrefined to me, but it was much closer to the level of finish I expect. For the "pickle" series, whether you like the colors or not, you cannot argue that Frank has not done the appropriate amount effort getting them painted, in fact, they look like they took a hell of a long time. The purple Fortune cat is no exception, it looks very well done, and has the appropriate level of finish and polish. If you want to bash the early blood splats as the easy answer, I can see your argument, but it is hard to bash the new paints as the easy answer. I know painting all those figures is no quick task, and not really worth the time vs. money it takes for him to do it. (He could paint a bunch of Labbits or [expletive deleted] and make a lot more money off of them.) In essence, what I see HMS and others are saying, and I agree with, is that for any customizer, manufacturer or special edition issuer, big or small, they expect a certain level of finish and/or craftmanship to be worthy of their money. I think HMS is reacting to what he perceives as someone not living up to the level of finish/craft of the companies they are representing. (HMS and other correct me if I am wrong.) Let's just air out the debate in the open then. I also have heard that other folks feel Frank is merely profiteering on these companies and this community without properly giving back or being part of it. Once again, this is up for debate, as Frank is pretty active here on the boards whether you like it or not. If you guys want to keep debating it, I say all of you (HMS, Frank, others) can debate it wide open politely, or just kill it. Ten pages of funny insults, although amusing, will get us nowhere on the topic. So, sit back, put on your high school debate team uniform and cut to the chase. I think you have all seen that many places have been jumping in with near reckless abandon thinkling that kaiju is the next big thing. I will say that we have a VERY good plan in place to care of most of this going forward, and that you will see better decision making coming from Japan. More on this in a few weeks. In the meantime, get your typing fingers ready.
