Emerald Seijen Oodakoo Just went for 90 and 100 (his cost). I have no skin in this game, I just pick up Ultra figures for my daughter. Everytime I scroll through my feed she says I have Ultraman or I have Godzilla.. We watch the show together, it's a thing.

Maybe I mispoke when I said at cost when I should have said at current pricing, usually people here will sell for a fair price which is still 100 dollars cheaper than the pricing on YJA or E-bay. I would get flamed here if I put up an Izumonster toy for sale for 5K. I just bought 2 devilman repros here for under their original cost. Someone recently put up a handfull of Maza's at the current YJA pricing and got pooped on for it.

You may have paid 40 dollars for something 10 years ago, and today that same maker is selling them at 200. Nobody is hating on that here, but usually the sentiment was "I got these at a good price because of Skullbrain, I'm going to let them go at a good price to boardmembers and pass on good karma." Maybe it's different now I don't know, but when I let stuff go eventually, it will be here first, then to the Bay. It would feel shitty to buy something from someone because they needed money at the time, and profit off of their need, but that's just me.

Ok, zindabad def had some great prices in his sale. Also had deservedly high prices for older stuff (shouldve went higher actually). Now lets get Buta the fuck out of this thread!

$100 cheaper than yja or ebay makes sense given they are paying fees to sell on there.

Can we just fully accept the derail of this thread into the 'unfortunate layoffs, eff the corporate man vent' instead? It's got to be more productive than most of the last 200+ pages

@JoeMan I am terribly sorry to hear about your layoff. There is never a good time for this to happen. I hope you can both land on your feet again soon. I know you've got the skillset to do it, and one should be incredibly valuable. Your fans and friends are also here to help out in any way on the side projects.

@ungawa222 Equally shitty to hear this man. I hope you make it through Mitch, but from having been in similar situations, I often know how difficult and soul draining it can be to remain, even if you are not one of the unfortunate one that gets culled [this round]. I know exactly how fickle biotech can be.

At you both [and anyone else here who cares], I went through this last year, and believe me it was rough. Got a sudden email 'notice' that I was 'at risk of redundancy' and had three days to essentially ask any questions (i.e. defend my place in the company to deaf ears). This was conveniently right before Christmas last year. My partner also got the axe shortly thereafter, from a job she was already commuting four hours each way to get to. With mortgage and bills to pay, this was not a very great scenario, and there were some very rough patches and sacrifices we had to make. Without putting too fine a point on it, I have collected some fair qualifications and skillset in my time, but finding anything is (and was) brutal. But I am not saying this all to vent or grip, we've all got stuff in the real world we have to deal with. But my point is, which is kind of related to this discussion topic in a way, is that when I was having some very tough periods it was being able to make connections with good people in this community and getting small pleasures from my silly, unhyped plastic dollies, that I actually found solace and moderate distraction.

Anyways, TL;DR - if I can provide either of you with some references, connections, etc. - whatever it is within my means to do - please reach out. I would be more than happy to.

My takeaway message: Corporations are horrible. Startups might even be worse.

Thank god I don't have children. You'll all take care of me when I'm old right? I had to buy the toys, you see.

I didn’t mean to derail, just sharing my position that with age the really expensive toy purchases seem to risky to me to partake in. In the realm of Gorillas, after several years on the prowl and passing up a few because they seemed too pricey; my last toy purchase before lay offs was a Bullmark King Kong which I’m very excited about. Should be here within the week. To comment on Hirota, I would very much enjoy building one of the billiken Garage kits, that was the stand out from the show to me.

I've found it happens with every kind of collecting. Once the art/toy/whatever reaches a certain level of 'coolness' the rich people get wind of it and ruin everything by over-bidding and pushing up prices.

Meanwhile i recently found a Kuriten Seijin by Imiri Sakabashira on ebay for £40.

IMO its better for my mental health to drop any hyped wants and refocus my collecting habits .... just aim for stuff that is a bit more under the radar and obtainable. Its a shame if you really like a particular maker, but it is what it is. There's always something else just as cool to go after.

ME TOO! I wanted to share a pic of that, but feels weird to share other people's photos, and Hirota hasn't shared an image of that whole set to my knowlege.

So yeah, if anyone picked up that kit and would like me to build it: I have garage kit experience ;)

I can perfectly understand the gesture of showing affection for the artist. But the gift dump I saw in those pictures, well, it seemed more like ass-kissing at its best!

The amount of truths that have come out from behind the scenes in this thread is very refreshing.

I never thought I'd agree on something Andy wrote but here we are...the amount of people who will stick it to you literally and figuratively just to gain one step in a lot of circles is astounding. I use the phrase "hens in a henhouse" a lot and it's very true. That guy above thinks all of these guys are his buddies but wait until he gets something none of the others have....and one of those fools gets a hair across their ass about it. Good luck dude.

Although I don't, I'd rather have that perception of the world. 1 that toy friends(and acquaintances) I have made are genuine friends and are happy for my successes and I am happy for theirs. That toys are supposed to be fun and the money invested in them isn't for value in any way other than enjoyment. I'd definitely trade the subtle anxiety and fleeting moments of jealousy for everyone being happy with their scores and glad their friends score when they don't. Basically the perception that people are generally good. End of fuckin hippy rant.

I’m with you @animator , it’s why I had to stop collecting for a while and got out of those terrible cultish circles. I saw the word toxic used earlier too, that’s putting it mildly.
Be happy for your friends, be happy for your own pickups, have good hangs..I’m all for those things.

I agree overall, glad you point out it's a lot of circles. We live in a hyper competitive world that's shrinking by the second globally and digitally. I don't mind, it's the plain truth.

For what it's worth (probably nothing), your theoretical scenario has already played out, except I've received nothing but congrats and happy messages through social media and in real life

Once again steering us into the off-topic ditch, I just want to ask whoever is keeping a running journal of "sofubi collector language that would sound utterly mystifying to normals" to please record this wonderful phrase therein:
nobody is selling buta at cost unless it's godman figs.

    Thank you. :D

Even cost is starting to get pretty high since I became an M-World customer

They're still a great avenue for these dolls (don't blacklist me pls) and I hope they continue to be at least somewhat accessible. I want that Sphinx so bad.

Adding to the derail… buta prices here are well below the secondary market prices. Many go for hundreds if not close to $1k more on JYA. Pretty soon they are going to be artifacts!

can we make sure that I'm credited for this please?? :D

also wanna mention that almost no butas are being sold here anymore, so building a collection off of sb sales is not gonna happen these days. Pretty sad that it is that way. I've gotten 10 buta figs that I needed at ONE TIME, from a single collector in random DM, on here before. And then was able to pass on the rest to friends. props to zindabad for passing along some (newer but great) butas at awesome prices!

I've seen a pretty steady stream but they all get bought up extremely fast, Except for dustman for some reason about two months ago. I did have someone on instagram offer me pretty much every Buta I've ever wanted, but I ended up putting toy buying on a hiatus due to having to replace a car engine... I don't know if you're looking for anything in particular but he had pretty much everything. Lots and lots of miniatures.
