Well, in the coverage for Kinnikuman Day in Osaka that Ty posted, there was a pic of a fully painted figure. Looked like an official product shot...but I'm not sure if it was actually released or not.
Yes, the painted version was a TOYFUL exclusive: http://www.nama-niku.blogspot.com/2013/ ... ferno.html It sold out within two hours of going live. KIN29SHOP, Yamashiroya and Punk Drunkers will have their own painted exclusives within the next six months. Geronimo is still in the works. I saw a clay prototype in person when I was in Tokyo (just not sure when it will actually be released). EDIT: While this is not exactly Five Star related, it does fall in the Kinnikuman Sofubi universe… When I visited Kaikodo a few months back, I was introduced to Kawakami-san of Y.MSF. While most collectors are fairly familiar with his Godzilla Sofubi series, it is not commonly known that he did most of the sculpting for the Kinnikuman Romando series. He has also done some contract sculpting for CCP. Long story short, I lucked out with an invite to the Y.MSF studio… I am heading back there in April, but thought I would share some of the Kinnikuman prototypes he showed me. The pics kind of suck, but give you an idea of what he has been working on. Looks like all new sculpts based on the Kinniku Throne Arc and current Kinnikuman Resurrection Arc Manga series.
Wow--I had NO idea Y-MSF was involved with Kinnikuman stuff at all...let alone doing work for Romando and CCP! That's pretty wild! Still...while I respect the realism of their sculpts, I prefer the goofiness of the FiveStar figures. Anyway, is it weird that the TOYFUL version of Ninja is his *default* color scheme? You'd think that shop exclusives would have wild, fanciful colors (like Punk Drunkers' "Poison" versions)...while the "regular" common release was the character's default colors...
Wow, finally a new sculpt! Can't wait to see (and snap) a painted version!! Thanks for posting, glad to see this thread come back to life!
I know, super f'n excited! Snagged both Geronimo and Terryman Terryman is meh, but Geronimo looks top notch.
No sweat! Yeah, I'm pleased to see this line continue...even if the releases have slowed down. I guess they'd been working on Geronimo for a while now (around the same time they started Ninja). Definitely looking forward to the painted version! ...And a painted version of Big the Budo/Neptune King. Hey...well, Terryman is basically just a white guy. And little else!
Geronimo looks great, happy to see some new stuff still coming in this line. I've been waiting to check out that painted Budo too, Sanjeev. Going to be pretty impressive I imagine.
YES! I've been waiting for the painted Budo since I first saw the sculpt! + PD versions please later down the line!
Oh wow, looks like the painted Big Budo is on its way after all!! I can't post a pic right now but will update later (if someone doesn't in the meantime), he looks great! Edit (sorry can't embed for some reason from my phone): http://instagram.com/p/oVcPi4K9hg/
Here you go for anyone who hasn't seen it, and thanks Rob for the heads up. Not a paint scheme I was expecting for him, but he's pretty cool. A lot of colour going on though, so unless [probably even if] the parts are cast in several different vinyl colours, I could see this guy being a bit pricier. I like the light blue skin a lot, but am on the fence about the face colour. Still, what a beast!
Thanks Ultra, I must admit that I love this release. More than anything because he's going to be a great addition to my Five Star corner, especially in terms of colour way (that differs from the others I have).
Please enjoy the gratitude! But just for the record, they were sold out by the time I tried to place my order! Knowing Y!J, though, I'm sure he'll turn up. I'm wondering if they now have a painted Neptune King in the works...
^^^ Wow, this painted! Keeping my fingers crossed! Also sorry to derail but I really love these shirts!
" Hey...well, Terryman is basically just a white guy. And little else! " A white guy based off of THE LIVING LEGEND Terry Funk, pfft get off my damn lawn kid
