I sign in and receive this message “Attempts to send emails to ******@hotmail.com have failed. Please update your email. Update your ...” I couldn’t post anything or see the for sale section even though signed in. Also I couldn’t just re enter and save old email, I had to use another. Any moderators know what this is about? Any light on this?
@GERMS are you currently able to see the For Sale section? As far as I can tell from looking at your account, you should have normal permissions.
@TiredChildren yes though I had to register a different email to access my account. Was wondering why? Not a big deal I guess.
Honestly I didn’t know the board had that feature, but I’m glad it does. The board needs to be able to send you emails for alerts, but also for security issues like changed passwords and stuff. I’m guessing the board had enough bounced emails that it asked you to change your email so that it can be sure your account is secure. Hotmail is notorious for blacklisting our forum.
For reference, this is happening again - same message - but with a gmail account, Strangely, I have been getting site emails up until Dec 13th and then nothing - when I logged on, the message "Attempts to send emails to ******@gmail.com have failed. Please update your email. Update your ..." was at the top of the page in a large green banner. Attempts to do this failed and I had to change the email to another gmail account to get the site to start working again. I am aware of at least one other user who is having a similar issue. Has something been changed on the site software/admin side?
We've been notified of this issue, and thank you and all those who raised it. I presume it is related to a similar change as had happened last year, but we've flagged it with James once again to take a deeper look at what might be causing this issue. Sincere apologies to everyone having trouble loggin in, we'll try and sort out the disruption as soon as we can.
Looks like this is related to Gmail specifically. 3 days ago there was a big outage which has made lots of emails bounce. When an email that the site tries to send bounces, it tells the site that the user needs to update their email address. I would suggest if this is happening to people, they should try setting the email to something else, then after it's changed, they can change it back to the previous email if they like. I'm not sure if that will work, so I'd appreciate if someone could try and let me know. (Here's info on the outage: https://www.google.com/appsstatus#hl=en&v=issue&sid=1&iid=a8b67908fadee664c68c240ff9f529ab)
I changed back to the original email, to test your theory, and the site is working fine and accepts the change back to the ‘problem’ email. Thank you for your help.
