scored from super7 on my first trip there. looks similar to the one that joe has pictured above. that write-up on the Aurora prehistoric scenes is great.
Nice score on that Triceratops. I can stop thinking about it every time I drop by the store. Just got in this Miura Dino.
i had a chance to get one on ebay a few years back but thought the starting price was a bit too high. im an idiot.
New old dinosaurs in the mail today. Far left and far right are a Nitto Brontosaurus and T-Rex. The Brontosaurus has kind of a funny story behind it. I found one on YJA a few months ago with a mislabeled auction, so I put in a bid request and waited. The morning after the bid finished I checked the page and was pleased to find a low ending bid (about 3,000 yen). Then my heart stopped- I didn't recognize the bidder ID. My bidding agent apologized and said that they had a software malfunction that caused them to miss the auction. Argh. I figured it would be a year or more before another one came up. Then just last month, ANOTHER Bronto showed up in ANOTHER mislabeled auction with a bunch of random toys (including the T-Rex). Fortunately, I actually was able to bid on this one and the ending bid was again quite cheap. They're not in super condition- the Bronto has one cracked foot- but can't complain for the price. The two in front are made by Tsukuda- Iguanodon and Kentrosaurus (L to R). They came with the Nitto dinos. You rarely find these loose- for some reason I see them most often still MIB in 3-pack bags. Kind of cute, cheap.
Those Nitto dinos are fantastic! I especially like the the Brontosaurus on the flesh/orange vinyl. Glad you were able to find it again.
Not vinyl, but may be of interest to dinosaur enthusiasts. These are hard plastic dinosaur models made by a company called Invicta Plastics located in Leicester, England, working in conjunction with the British Museum. They were produced over a span of about 15 years, during the late 70s and throughout the 80s. Mostly sold through museum gift shops and the like. I believe they are considered the first mass-produced, "scientifically-accurate" models/toys of dinosaurs. I had nearly the entire set of prehistoric creatures made by Invicta, except for the whale and maybe one other. Not pictured are the Pteranodon, Elasmosaurus and Ichthyosaurus- as well as a T-Rex, Stegosaurus and Troodon, which I could not find (probably packed in a box in the attic). But it brought back a lot of nice memories to pull these out and photograph them. EDIT: I just checked and I am actually missing a bunch in the above shots. Man, where did they all go?
Those are really tight, Daniel! I had a couple when I was little....all gone now... I know they're not vintage, but does anyone here collect any modern dino figs? Mark, I'm looking at you! I know Safari puts out a bunch of cool and affordable (but smallish) ones. And another company, Papo, seems to be making some amazing figures! Just check out this allosaurus!
wow. When I was a kid, I loved the allosaurus...really takes me back. Of course back then the dinosaurs only came in olive, brown, beige, cream and black as that was considered more realistic. Ha! The paint on that thing is astounding; thanks Sanjeev!
I'm saying...for a $20 toy, the paint ops are fucking insane! The thing even features an articulated jaw...damn...
thanks for posting the invicta plastic ones, great toys. I would like to find the ones I had a s a kid. Sort of hollow plastic, low details and brightly colored. Each one about 4 to 5 inches tall/long. Maybe I can dig up some pics...
Love that bootleg- looks like the T-Rex from Dino Riders. @Greasebat- Those sound like Tootsie Toys (see below website). Check out this website... amazing database ranging from plasticky vintage dinos to the modern, scientific stuff: http://www.dinosaurcollector.150m.com/companies.htm
I have these two mins as well, had them forever, don't know where they came from. And I have a third but no pics. I think they're made in china...
Yes! That is them, exactly...Tootsie Toys. Wow. I like the ice age figures too. Now I have to track those down, thanks for the awesome link.
YOu those from Kaiju Taro!!! I was so lazy to go through all their stuff!! These are really great!!! Love the red one.
