Hoping this image can be seen now that i hav the plug in. But came across these tail draggers on yj. Soft vinyl, pretty big too. 8inches maybe more. No markings. Any info would be appreciated!
@akum6n This is an old post of yours but I directed @GruesomeGraphx to it in a discussion we were having on Facebook. The green Stegosaurus you're talking about in this post is the one on page 116 of the Tatsumi Mook about dinosaurs, right? I did a Google translation of the page, it's just as ambiguous:
Hmm, I have the Tatsumi mook... I'll take a look and see if I can glean anything further from the original Japanese text. Yes, that was the green Stegosaurus referenced in my post. Looking at it again, I would guess Miura Toy is the actual manufacturer, or (if they are actually different companies) the company that made the Super Kaiju series. The style is the same as the Super Kaiju series, and those were also lacking foot stamps.
My most recent mail. Takatoku Ankylosaurus, stands just over 8" high. The vinyl is fairly light-weight but seems good quality. I found this interesting from the Mandarake website ... 'Apparently Takatoku was a toy company without its own factory. For this reason, we had a cooperative relationship with Nitto, and we borrowed Nitto's technology to create monster soft vinyl and capitalize on the ultra monster boom of the time. The way he stands is somewhat reminiscent of Nitto's Gamera, but the shape of his legs and body make him a cute monster that is unique to Takatoku.'
Got that (maybe) Miura stegosaurus, comparison pics with the Marusan/Shimada on Instagram: View this post on Instagram
Congrats, Roger. I have to say, I still think it is extremely weird that the Miura Toy Stego was made to be a very clear knock-off from the original Marusan Stego. It would be unique among their toys in that way. It would also be the only standard size dino that they made. (I do believe that this was made by Miura Toy, and not Daikyo, based on the lack of foot stamp (and presence of the distinctive foot grooves) and sculpting style.) My dream would be to see one of these in packaging some day.
Thanks guys. The similarity between the figures is baffling to me too. They didn't even choose a different color.
I don't usually post my Chinasaurs here, but this one is unusual at 14" long. Not often i see any like this one.
