i think its a confluence of both factors. i dun think yoda-san has any choice with the pace. he needs to put them out to make a living. much like monstock with the destdons, rxh and toygraph with their fanatic pace. too many releases chasing too few collectors.
I know I stopped buying (for the most part) since all the investment banks started collapsing. Not like im some big wall street baller but sadly Kaiju is a luxury item and the first thing to go when belts start getting tightened.
i haven't seen yoda-san similing so cutely for some time the way he sold dempa 5.0 is pretty interesting and there are only 10! http://pink.ap.teacup.com/kadomiumtank/
So here's something that's been bugging me: Is every Dempagon (minus the unpainteds) a tribute? Here's the one's I know: 1 - Garuban 1.5 - ?!?!?! 2 - Frankenruge 3 - Wasn't this a tribute to SOMETHING or did it just so happen to resemble some pop art, more of a coincidence? 4 - King Joe Panda - Was this a tribute to a PARTICULAR Panda, I know Anime and Manga are littered with them, or just a cool idea? Smogun (obvious) Manadrake Exclusives - Anything? I didn't think so originally but the stars on the back of the pink one made me think "maybe?" 5 - Is he a tribute to the Kaibutsu-Kun Frank? Anyway, thought I'd bring it up, even if the few I'm not sure on AREN'T tributes (polka-dots, manadrake, panda) that's still a LOT of tributes. Just trying to clear it up for myself.
its balancing out i think. people can't flip new toys because others have so may ways of obtaining them. It makes me happy because all of the idiots who are doing this type of thing will be shyed away for the most part and find another group of collectors to take advantage of.
It's also nice because the "panic" that once existed is much less. You can THINK a bit more about buying things without worrying about it flying off. You can actually say "I want that, but will pass right now and get it down the road" vs. "IF I DON'T BUY NOW I'LL NEVER GET IT ARGH!" Anyway, back to my above question
Interesting viewpoint. It's hard to tell as the interest and speculations happen in waves just like the 'market' itself. In these weird recession times everyone (including both collectors and flippers) spends less on 'luxury' items. If more flippers shy away, lose interest and motivation to stand in the rain for a toy release or spend restless hours behind a computer screen, the toy community will benefit from this in the end.
wow, Dempa 5.0 is easily my favorite alongside 3.0. Very sad (for me) that so few were made. Did anyone score one of these? (Is it a tribute? I hope not...there are too many tributes already)
I was guessing it was a tribute to this: I know the "shirt" color seems off, but the stitches and haircut and blue coat color seem to be there. I'm not totally sure though.
Little details on this guy make me love it SO much! I just got my 2nd, I think I'm an addict! What I find interesting is that versions I was disinterested in before (Panda, Smogun, King Joe) I really want now after getting a few others I really like in hand. I know that's a cliche' of these types of toys/this hobby but I've never experienced it myself. I've even toyed with the idea of being a completist, but I'm not that insane. Totally best toy/new sculpt of 2008, and honestly I think it whips anything from 2007's ass too! I feel 6 years old again.
Droooooool on the Ikageruge tribute. Thankfully the prices on these guys have been tanking (well, relatively) in the last few months, so maybe it won't be too hard to snag. ....unlike the last one...
It's funny, a lot of the tributes I started hating with this guy, now I love them. Once I had one in hand it all kind of fit in my head. Take this, if you said "Hey Jeff, they're gonna do an Ikageruge tribute on a Dempagon" I'd say "No way, that won't work!" and there it is, kicking ass and proving me wrong. Another to add to my "wants."
