Came across this amongst some Sundance trailers and the idea is interesting—Anne Hathaway realizes she somehow controls/materializes a giant monster on the other side of the globe. Can't tell if it's gonna be fun-funny, or stupid-funny…with Sudeikis I'm assuming the latter but we'll see. (This is the flick @bunnyboy mentioned a couple years ago here. Way diff. than what I was expecting when he was talking doing Godzilla on the cheap!)
Anyone seen this yet? It's in NY and LA now and opening in other cities listed here @Kerk1 This is the final logo:
I just saw that it is coming to our local arthouse, but I'm still not sure if I want to spend the money.
If you really need an advanced report, I intend on checking out a matinee this Friday, but you should just have a look at... Timecrimes (Los Cronocrímenes, 2007)* and Extraterrestrial (Extraterrestre, 2011)* ...this week and learn to accept that you must drop money at Sr. Vigalondo's feet whenever the opportunity arises! *As I demanded of you in BGland a couple of months ago!
I had no idea the person behind it was the same guy who made Time Crimes. TC is the most unique time travel movie I've ever seen, while remaining clever and an overall good film in general. It's a must that I watch Extraterrestrial tonight now.
A little surprised that you've never seen it before, Mark, but that just means that you're still in store for a treat! Caught it on its original release - my local art museum screened it - and have been happily subjecting people to it since the day the DVD came out. Wasn't so lucky to catch Extraterrestre in public, but I tend to push that one on folks a good bit, too. I dig his shorts from the ABCs and V/H/S series as well, and even Open Windows is a damned interesting watch. Vigalondo + giant monster + comedy = Hepped-up Hartman!
Yeah, I've come so close so many times to pushing play. One of those it's-gotta-be-the-right-time things. I watch a lot of stuff while I'm working, and I know I can't do that with this one, so I pass it by. Often. If not this week, I'm gonna hit it for sure next week.
Gonna try and squeeze it in today. This is the motivation I needed! EDIT: Watching it now. Digging it so far. EDIT: Great flick. I got confused for a minute, as I do with all time travel flicks, but they did a good job of clearing stuff up.
@boon velvet @toothaction Well, I asked my lady-friend, and it looks like we're going. I think that one of my best friends showed me Timecrimes back when it was new. I primarily have reservations about seeing his films because, on the surface, he sounds like he could be the Spanish M. Night Shyamalan, and not the Spanish Guillermo del Toro! (sic)
I just won some passes for the movie - will give a review post-Apr 20th (I guess it opens late here?).
MONDOtized: Saw it; loved it. Might make hardcore genre fans cranky, hard to say. Seeing it again on Tuesday with a different friend. Is it Tuesday yet?
Whoa…both those posters are rad. Love the design and vibe on the Shadow one but the positive/negative hair/face one is super smart.
I'm glad to hear some positive feedback , but being a good movie aside, is the monster present for a lot of the film? Demeking was very disappointing that way.
@boon velvet - I really don't want to spoil it for anyone - anymore than the ad campaign already has, at least - but suffice it to say...
