Did this thread REALLY need it's own section? It was fine right where it was at. Might as well get Awesome Toys over here while we're at it to .
This is the start of a new section as we see our toy world shift and evolve. We will be moving other threads over here too. If you have suggestions on what should be moved over here please DM myself, @TiredChildren @toothaction or @ultrakaiju
If I remember correctly my packages come from Hong Kong. Which isn't quite there but you get the picture.
Awesome Toy is a Hong Kong base company but their toys are suppose to be made in Japan. Made in Japan toys was a point AT advertise early on in their career. Medicom also advertise their AT exclusive toys as being made in Japan. But I notice they stop advertising made in Japan, which makes me wonder if they still produce them in Japan?
I'm just curious how we should approach the idea of Chinese-produced toys. Because the thought behind this section is that toys that are produced in China are here, but some American artists have been creating toys that are produced in China, so should they be in this section? Or is it only for Chinese companies / artists that are making Chinese-produced toys? What about Awesome Toy? Since they're in Hong Kong, should they be here?
If your going to do this with one might as well do it with all of them. No reason to play favorites. To be fair I think this opens up a whole can of unwanted worms. They were fine where they were despite not being Japanese in general. But if ppl really wanted this might as well take no prisoners on anything.
@Headhunter, these were my points on some sort of alteration(s): http://skullbrain.org/bb/index.php?threads/new-forum-feedback-requests.51080/page-18#post-923156 You're right, the way that the site is designed (and without the grand undertaking of another overhaul), China Cabinet should be for makers out of China. In that case, are there enough Chinese soft vinyl makers to warrant the China Cabinet? I don't know... The question is how to incorporate soft vinyl made in Chinese factories into its own section because it's different enough from soft vinyl made in Japan (as is soft vinyl toys made anywhere other than Japan) and has become a large player in the soft vinyl toy world now... If it's agreed that skullbrain's main purpose is the original one, for sofubi information and discussion, then fauxfubi could have a section like Resonators Romper Room in the Show Your Collection forum... Or there's the exact opposite, including all soft vinyl toys on the same plane, which is essentially the way it's setup here now, categorizing makers by where their homebase is. I suppose this is the most "adapting to the times" option, BUT there still needs to be an easily found area that functions to let us know where a maker has their toys made... What about a greater list(s) in the General Interests forum that would have makers listed alphabeticaly under where their factories are located? Tho the setup would take some thinking, because some makers have had / will have toys made in a variety of locations (ex: Mockbat & Mini Mockbat). This could be the easiest and most friendly solution. I look forward to finding out if anyone has begun using a factory in Amurika. @TiredChildren @animator @toothaction @ultrakaiju
I think this section should be for all Asian creators regardless of where the toys are made. There are also producers from Thailand, Taiwan etc these days
I would have to agree with this, several good new companies from all these places worth talking about IMO.
True. I was referring to where the factories are, not where the artists and makers are... So what would you propose, changing the title of the Japan section to Asia?
Actually I thought instead of just China cabinet, this section can be Asia cabinet in general, for all Asian makers who are not Japanese.
I would agree that the fairest way to determine who belongs in this forum would be the geo location of the maker. So everyone operating in China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan would be in a non Japan Asia section. Right now with the new naming of the American forum being Americans and gaijin, that applies it is for everyone not Japanese and that the Chinese and other Asian makers could go there as well. I would clarify that to be western, for Americans and Europeans.
Good call! I renamed it to "Americans and Other Western Gaijin." So while I really dig the "China Cabinet" name, I guess this section should be more broad to include other non-Japanese Asian toy producers. And is the general consensus that this section should include threads for American artists who have their toys made in China?
Another sub-forum of crap and shady shenanigans that should never darken the towels of Skullbrain! . . . blech!
