Just got back from Bwana's opening at Giant Robot........ This is the first time I met Bwana & I've got to say he is a really friendly guy.......... he spent time with everyone chatting & answering all of their questions about his art....... I even had him doodle in my sketch book....... Loved the show - no vinyl, although Giant Robot had Edward the Gator & Gold-Toothed Steven for sale.......... His paintings were whimsical & colorful as always and my favorite was a wood carving Bwana did of Steven the Bat that was in GR's front window - but was too dark to photograph.... Please excuse the lousy photos ........ at least they will give you an idea of what was on display, until someone else posts better shots. I thought that I'd see a few Skullbrainers there, but all I met was Tom from Chicago, who happened to be in town on a business trip.... Probably others came later as I arrived at the opening...... Show was cool, Bwana was even cooler, it was nice to meet some other SBer's, well one at least, LamourSupreme. I also picked up the piece Bwana is standing in from of.....
Thanks for sharing some pics. I love the fact that you have Old Gregg as your avatar and a Mighty Boosh quote from the same episode in your sig LamourSupreme! Chris
That rainbow dragon guy's cool. I thought I once saw a vinyl of it, or maybe it was a low run resin. Anyone have one, post some pics.
was talking to Bwana about that. Not out yet. This painting was much better in person. Photos never seem to capture the vibrancy of his colors.
yes thanks so much to everybody that turned out. It was an awesome NYC experience. I was stoked to meet some board members. grny.net just put everything available up online for purchase a few minutes ago.
That giant Steven is amazing. Someone said it's carved from wood -- looks like it could even be made of Mexican ziricote wood. Can't tell too well from the pic, would love to see better pics of that piece, if anyone got any.
yep yeah. it's zircote or ziricote or a bunch of other names too. It's so flippin' hard. It was ultimate fun and gigantic pain all at once. the piece is based on this drawing a kid named Jaden did of steven
