Atomica Exotica Witch Doctor Kaduku

Hey everyone it’s been a long time but I wanted to post about my new figure. As I was getting more and more immersed in Tiki culture I saw a lot of parallels in that scene and our own. While this was happening I was feeling a bit locked up on another toy project (more on that in the future) and decided to go forward with this new idea I had. So I present Doctor Kaduku the first figure in the Atomica Exotica toy line.

Congrats on the new and finally completed toy, Mikee!!! It’s great to see some progress and pulls, and it’d be awesome to see these by DCon, but awesome to see nonetheless.

What’s the height? Also is that a shrunken head omake?

 

Thank you my dude I believe he clocks in around 5.25” I wanted him to be an interesting parallel to kaiju toys in terms of scale.
And yes that is a shrunken head omake what’s a witch doctor without a shrunken head

I love this fugly little guy. The shrunken head omake is probably the coolest extra ever and the paints have all been solid so far. Can't wait for more

 

Thanks for the kind words guys. I really do appreciate it. I came in hard and fast when i was younger and admittedly took a lot of well deserved criticism. I look back on my previous toy effort and it was something that was made with a lot of excitement but also a large lack of knowledge on in and outs of design and sofubi. I made mistakes I would like to rectify with that character at some point. But I also appreciate all the earnest criticism and negativity that was handed out. It made me learn it made me get better. I can honestly say I’m proud of this toy and I have so many fun things on the way for this line. It really is about making toys fun again while also making something that appeals in a different way and maybe leads to everyone owning a tiki mug or two.

On his way to Japan is the new head for Kaduku the Ultra Head Hunter!
While having one of our usual discussions Griz and I started spitballing tiki mugs and what there Kaiju/Tokusatsu counters would be and the classic Head Hunter Mug with the Ultraman twist was conceived! Now of course theres a story explanation for it within the world of Atomica Exotica but honestly fuck it it’s just a fun head to make. Either way hoping to start making these guys soon. And it maybe adding to the AxE line more and in different ways...

 

Ultra head sits so damn well on the rest of the sculpt

The huge eyes and slightly bulbous shape put me in mind of monsters from the deep, like he's part of the cult of a mysterious fish god. Maybe exposing some basic taste on my part here, but I like that it makes the whole silhouette of the toy squat and round now. I think this is the one for me. Excited to see it come to life!

 

I agree I think it for sure has a very nice shape to it and adds to the total form overall. Glad you like him duder

 

I’ve been with/supportive of Atmoica Exotica from day one, witnessing the process and eventual reveal of Witch Doctor Kuduku from sculpt to vinyl. However, this has always been from a distance, in terms of never owning one. Until now!!! With missing out on so many goddamn awesome releases the last three years I recently(finally) came into the first painted one off, and my first Kuduku, through Mr. Exotica himself, and I am pleased as punch. The tiki portrayal in this character is so spot on, and I really think Mikee did proper research and due diligence to be sure of not missing or misrepresenting the aim for tiki culture execution. From the hat, to the bone necklace and bone septum piercing, to the loin cloth, hat, and even the wonky, voodoo eyes, everything gets checked off the list for me. And the elements of fun that come into Kuduku are his teeth, the crossbone design on the hat(makes me think witch doctor nod to Kid Hunter), the spider and bug on his shoulders, the little potion bottle tied to his waste, and stitched up scars on the arm and face. And the shrunken head omake cannot go unmentioned. Easily one of the coolest omakes to accompany a figure, and so, so fitting on every level. It’s also a major plus that Kuduku can hold it between his body and arm. I’ll be able to collect these more steadily now, and hope to find some past versions down the road. Fingers crossed we see more soon!

Kaduku ain’t going nowhere and his universe and cast just keeps growing.
We have the scum doctor dread dark magic foe of the witch doctor
We have the surf ghoul a toxic waste mutant hell bent on catching waves
And now we have the Ultra Head Hunter one part alien energy and other part pure head hunting mastery.
But wait there’s more…
But we will have to wait for Summer Slime to see what’s coming….

 

Getting ready to bring the Ultra Head Hunter to Summer Slime

 

From the depths of the intergalactic jungles, making its debut at Summer Slime, comes the Ultra Head Hunter!!! Blatantly and wonderfully inspired by Ultra Man it’s the perfect homage to fit both recognition of Tsuburaya’s superhero, and Atomica’s love for all things tiki. Sitting atop the Doctor Kuduku body, with his Oozy squid pal(the name escapes me), the first release dons bronze and green sprays by Grizli Atom(or GrizBizNiz) over GID vinyl, wielding a resin cast spear made by a local from of AE in New Mexico. This version happens to be a pleasantly surprised chase variant from the run that was sold over the weekend!

Also presented for the first time at Summer Slime, and ALSO painted by Griz, comes the Atomica Exotica x Paul Kaiju x Grizli Atom collaboration, the Mock Doc!!! Griz really went bananas on these paints and his talents for all things airbrush did this first time collab all justices. We’d previously seen Scum Doctor from AE and PK, and this is just another notch on the belt of awesome. I hope we see many more of these over time!

The eyes are glitter on the Mock Doc?!?! That's a nice touch!
