I seem to recall there being quite a bit of bare concrete stairwell going down to the shop, so I don't think that's a good indicator. I can't imagine them closing that location, though I can't explain why they weren't open...
We will see you all at 11am tomorrow morning (Friday) at the Hachiko Statue: in Shibuya. Read your Tokyo underground book for directions. If you are totally flipping out and worried you are going to miss something call us in the room tomorrow morning after 8am. Tel: 03-3476-3000 rm 3407 under Glenn Pogue (ask for Josh). The hotel is called the Cerulean Towers. See you in the morning.
Flying out this morning. Won't get to Tokyo until after dinner probably Friday. I'm staying at the Century Southern Hotel in Shibuya. (81 3) 53540111 Maybe I can meet up with you guys after dinner Friday? I'll try getting to a kiosk and see if anyone left any messages here for after dinner locations.... otherwise maybe one of you dudes can leave me a msg at the hotel. see you guys soon!!
YOU LUCKY BASTARDS!!!!! Obviously can't compare to this weekends LASK meetup - but oh well!!!!! Yiu can't fail to have teh BEST time!!!
I don't think Carl gets to call anyone a "lucky bastard" until next year's SDCC... ps. can someone in Japan bring me home some Momiji Manju?
I personally don't think Carl gets to ever call anyone a "lucky bastard" ever again. but that's just me...cheeky fellow has luck slathered all over him. have fun in Japan everyone...anybody want to hunt some pink pieces for me?
Im in Jpn right now but no chance for me to get to Tokyo I`m stuck in the Nagoya area. Anyway have a ton of fun for all you new to Jpn people! Among the ton of good food your gonna have, DO NOT forget to try Mosburger (the plain ol mosburger!! not the other fancy shmancy stuff although its good too) Lorne, if the currently visiting crew in Jpn can`t find your pink gear let me know what you want, if its something I can get(without being in Tokyo or festival etc) I got you covered.
Yeah, so, Mandarake in Shibuya is just fine. I didn't realize from the photos I'd seen that you have to travel deep into the earth's crust to actually get to the store. I think we passed Magmen on the way down the 4 flights of stairs... -- jJ
Whatever anyone says, I am going to set the record straight. S7 are punks, none of the things they said we'd get to do have come to fruition, and this trip is just majorly blowing all around. Anyone who wanted to come and didn't, don't worry -- nothing to regret. Glenn held me down while Josh beat me up, and then Flynn kicked me in the balls, HARD. Very lame. I am never doing business with these guys again, period. Uh... HAH! No, so really, this trip is probably going to go down as one of the most, if not THE most, memorable experiences of my life. I'm totally blown away at how fun and down to earth everyone is, incl. the S7 crew, the other guys who have met up here for this opportunity of a lifetime, and all the awesome locals we're meeting left and right, incl. many of the most ridiculously awesome and talented designers on the planet. We've been rocking the hell out of Tokyo, just way too many lust-worthy things going on every second of every day so far to even try to elaborate on for the time being, until I have some time to "process" what the hell is going on, and how can life possibly rule this much? People -- start planning for S7 Tokyo Tour 2009 NOW. I swear to god it will blow your mind, especially if you've never been to Tokyo before. And even if you have, you probably haven't done it like this. Just freaking way too cool for school. A very excited and quite exhausted Nicky G P.S. No but seriously, don't ever trust alifeintoys, we are talking one really sketchy German dude, he wears rubber lederhosen and it's kind of freaking me out. Hah, no, just kidding. Fabian is alright!
Wow, after Nicky G's sweet sweet loveletter to Tokyo, I'm really bummed I didn't make the trip. Just wow.
Anyone who's still in town or a local want to grab dinner with Fabian and myself tonight? The two of us will be at Hachiko statue in Shibuya at 8pm today (Tuesday) -- if any other skullbrainers show up that would be very cool! Fabian is going a little nuts with some purchases today I think he really wants to show off.
Damn Nicky, just got home. Sadness setting in I'm not there anymore and I have to work in the a.m. What can I say? Time of our lives and it's awesome hanging with you. Let's do this again in 09!!!
Just got back. What a great time!!! I cannot believe how much fun it was to roam the streets and alleyways with all of the skullbrainers and locals. Too many great moments to mention them all. And the toys were seemingly falling from the sky. I will definitely be back in 09.
Great to hear you guys had a good time! Been loving the pictures - post more! Count Monkey and I in for next year!
Scott wins the award, by the way, for Most Capable of Speaking in Japanese, in English. Great to meet you man, you frankly made the trip a much more memorable and enjoyable experience.
Like April of `09?? Cherry blossoms?? Right around SF49 on April 26th?? Shall we take over the Sakura House near Kagurazaka Station?? (yes, I know the cherry blossoms will be gone by late April.....)
