Definitely. I'd be lying if I said I didn't shoot my boyfriend a text saying I'm concerned about him trying to become a cop... He ultimately wants to be an investigator or detective, but everyone starts as patrol. :( At least he has EMS ride-alongs this weekend... He needs 7 more patient contacts before he can take the EMT license exam.

But seriously, I feel like we need a reset button for 2016. We're halfway through the year and everything is out of control. I fear what the second half will bring.

So today I was celebrating the fact that I haven't had a significant migraine since June 27th.
And then I get a severe migraine.

    GG, well played

I completely get why african americans are absolutely terrified of the police when being detained. I've watched just about every video of police killing african americans over the last few years and just judging from the situation each time its a over-zealous wound up cop going 0-60 in 1.5 seconds. Fuck those cops!

Police have way too much authority in this country to do whatever they want, and I'm sorry I don't care if your job is tough- you should not profile and approach every fucking situation like you're about to be taken out. Be cautious and use common sense- no need to blow a guy away in his car with his girlfriend and child in back seat?! WTF was that cop thinking?

And we're all supposed to feel bad when cops die like they are superheroes but there never is justice for the innocent people they take out year after year. Jeez I remember when I was a young rebellious youth I'd routinely mouth off to police all the time. I was well aware of my rights and I'd let them know when they were over-stepping their bounds, even going down to police station and filing complaints. I once had a off duty officer accost me at my place of work and took him to court. I think if I was that age now, in these scary times and being caucasian, I probably would have been blown away for sure doing those same things.

I'm completely neutral on gun control also.

Can we just admit that the shooting of a black, legal gun owner during a traffic stop is absolutely ridiculous? He was a model citizen. He obtained his gun legally. He informed the officer that he had a gun on him, and listened to the cop's order to pull out his ID.

Maybe it was just regional, but after 3 weeks vacation I can see why US drivers feature in this thread!

Never have I seen such a useless shower of shit behind the wheel.

Even though most vehicles are oversized stop-go automatic's that need virtually no input other than where they are positioned on the road I fail to comprehend how, given the complete lack of spatial awareness, grasp of basic motion physics or simple courtesy to other road users the nation hasn't managed to shunt each other into oblivion!

Travelling on narrower roads at higher speeds with twice the volume of traffic and having to actually use a gearstick I can see why most American tourists have only ever been to London . . . they'd not survive in a car!

@Anti Social Andy The scariest part is that (almost) every person on the road passed their driver's exam and earned their license to operate. Most don't even deserve to pilot a remote-control car, let alone a ton of steel on wheels!

As for my "Fuck You"... Fuck you to the creepy white van that honked at me while I was walking my dog. Your "ride" makes you look like a kiddie diddler.

    Oh story time...

I was camping in whiting mtns and had gone off to do some solo hiking. As I am making my way down a dirt road a Scooby Doo van pulls up. Full Scooby Doo paint job which characters on the side and says Scooby Doo. Driving it are two Australian tweekers. After exchanging pleasantries they ask where my camp site is. Hell no. I may be 50 but I'm not to old to be molested by these meddling kids.

    You know what's really fun?
Finding out there's a robin lying in your driveway... (Oh no)
...going up to look at it... (Please don't be dead)
...seeing that it's moving... (Is there hope?)
...and then realizing that it's moving because MAGGOTS.
    THE WHOLE THING IS MAGGOTS.
    EVERYTHING IS MAGGOTS.

Third fucking dead robin on our property this year, and it fucking KILLS ME because I raised two baby robins that fell from a nest two years ago. I can't shake the thought it might be one of them that returned to the place of their birth.

I'm fine with nature taking its course, but this isn't nature. Cats aren't nature. They're domesticated animals. Let the hawk eat the robin, I'll be fine. BUT THE CATS KILL FOR FUN AND LEAVE BIRDS EVERYWHERE AND FFFFFFUUUUUCCCKKKKKKK

And also, to the guy who drove that fucking truck in France, fuck you. Fuck. You. I don't even know what to say other than FUCK YOU.

When I still lived with my folks, we lived across from a farm and our cat would somehow find these little baby moles (?). We wouldn't even have known these things existed if she didn't start catching them. They were like these naked, hairless things that usually didn't even have their eyes open yet. And she would slowly torture them to death.

Is there even another species on the planet that is programed to torture other defenseless animals like that? And we keep these things in our homes and feed and praise them? What is going on?

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike cats. They can be very cute and friendly. But they can also be complete and utter assholes. Unless someone has a serious rodent problem, I don't think cats should be roaming everywhere.
I fucking love my birds. (Okay, not mine really, I just call them mine...) They know when I come outside without the dog, that I'm going to refill the feeder. They start gathering in the trees and watch me until I leave. The chickadees in particular will call their buddies over and next thing I know there's five of them watching me refill it.
And animal control in our town doesn't pick up cats "because it might be somebody's" even without a collar. Bullshit.

Oh, I like 'em, too and I loved my cat. But witnessing those occasional acts was very dark and disturbing to me. I figure it must be what being married to someone in the mob is like. You just gotta compartmentalize.

And i think those birds are just as much yours as if you had them in a cage. Maybe more so.

    Good for them.

Cats don't kill for "fun". It's instinct (some things centuries of domestication simply won't change). Just like terriers or any other dog breeds that are particularly adept at hunting (except they can catch and kill even larger prey)... but nobody's giving them a bad rap here. A little objectivity would be nice.

I can't speak for @hellointerloper, but like I said, I've never seen any other species lingeringly toy with their prey the way cats do, hunting dogs or no. Apparently I'm not the only person to think this was a kind of "play". But, I guess I may be wrong:

"A cat will “play” with her prey to tire it out in order to reduce the risk of injury to herself, but she’s not actually playing in the human sense. She’s simply doing the job that her instincts tell her she must do in order not to starve, and protecting herself in the process. If the prey is lively, the cat could suffer a serious bite that might become infected and lead to death. Only when the prey is sufficiently tired and dazed is the cat able to make the kill."

    http://www.metaphoricalplatypus.com...mmunication/why-do-cats-play-with-their-prey/

On the other hand, there's another piece that doesn't use that explanation, but offers several other possibilities, one of which, in fact, is enjoyment.
