Yet again, another lottery loss. Hopefully someone here got the white Tibeo, I hope I can score one of the future swamp creature releases, I think that would hurt the most!
Bit of a slight reimagining. Instagram is going to desaturate the living hell out of these, and it saddens me!!!
Goddamn Robert, those are so rich and vibrant! When I saw that top one I was like "oh fuck, that's so good i want it oh wait i have it"
So do you lose any of his lotteries? Gorgeous pics! I’ll probably not win the upcoming Swamp Creature, and that will hurt the most...
@cavemanmac I’ve missed out on a handful that I ended up getting caught up on by way of trades or buyer’s remorse. A couple were gifts from a friend. I admittedly enter each one, though. One of very, very few makers that I’m heavily adamant about! Thank you for the compliments, though. Four legged toys present a decent challenge to photograph, but this one is a lot of fun. I’m definitely lookin’ forward to whenever that creature is fully revealed.
Sometimes it pays off to be a loyal fan before the Hype kicks in. To love, collect, photograph and praise the old work people seem to have forgotten about, not known existed, or just not cared about until secondary market prices shoot up. I remember when you could get original sick boy billies when they popped up, unchallenged for probably 30 bucks because no one cared. Recently a trio went up and I stopped bidding at around 225 on the one I wanted. Because there would be no end to the Bids for the newb collector who had to have it. Anyway, who can say how much admiration Robert has expressed for Headlock before the Knuckle line came out, inspired Ken. And it’s been said before, but why shouldn’t the collectors who loved the toys And promoted the brand before things catch fire not be rewarded?
I have one of the bandana ones somewhere. Really cute toy that tiger tho, it is so good. Too bad it’s getting crazy popular and quite a hassle to find the price gouging is intense
Ken's expansion into more occultish content is what really swung me over to his brand more. Sick boy did absolutely nothing for me because I have no emotional connection to the culture. Lil Frankie is pretty good but just didn't click with me. Lil Diablo though? That's what really won me over. And then we saw Dr. Hyde and Bone Head, both which capture that 1970s Halloween aesthetic perfectly. Someone recently told me "sofubi is business", which exemplifies everything that is wrong with the hobby right now. I'm glad to see artists successful enough to supplement their income or even do it full time, and it's unrealistic to expect any collectible market to not have an aftermarket of some sort. But this "value first, art appreciation later" mentality really sucks the fun out of it. I'm glad people like Ken are consistently putting out a wide variety of stuff so if you miss the drop today not a big deal, you can get the next one.
Just all sorts of eager today. Pretty exciting to see the Sad Frankie minis get the full size treatment so soon. That blue in the skin is wonderful. View this post on Instagram
When I saw the lottery post I thought the medium creamy color of the sweater was a great choice as well. It’s such a great combo vibe with the blue.
@Spaceman Yells You speak only truth! At first I thought it was somethin’ of a faded yellow. Then I went back to it, like, five times and noticed the cream color. Very cool combination, as you mentioned. The all white sneakers are great, too. Something about the sad face, single tear and pit belly give him an entirely new vibe of life. He’s extra sad.
Imgur is suddenly, for some reason, desaturating my photos a bit. So these aren’t accurate to my actual edits. Sad Lil’ Frankie is wonderful. Genuinely melancholy in the face, and you can’t help but feel the same when you hold him in the hands! The cream colored sweater is a pretty big breakaway from standard colors you’d see on toys, but it works so well with few shades of blue included. The VAG gacha Sad Lil’ Frankie are just adorable and awesome. Amazing quality. Great, masked paint. The curled position adds a lot to the sadness and single tear in the face. I’m hoping to see more colors and versions of both gacha and full size Sad Lil’ Frankie. Spoiler
Completely under the radar, Paradise Toys held a lotto for this Tibeo, and it’s phenomenal. This’ll most likely be an impossible find on the aftermarket that won’t cost an appendage. That black vinyl base with pink details and accents, though...WHEW.
@maxaltoman Best version, hands down, by far! I’m sure one will come around someday. I’ll be waiting!
@Anti Social Andy All the huge wads!!! I’m fully accepting of anything possibly not making its way to my collection. It’s a part of the game! This would definitely be a damn nice one, though. All I can do is hope for comin’ into one at some point!
Tibeo still hopefully has a long future ahead, so I'll sit tight and see which version is for me. But if in some time this is still the only one I really, really want, I'll just have to get the wad of cash together!
No shortage of amazing news from Ken and Headlock, that’s for sure! Today’s announcement has brought about Kid Creature!!! The most perfectly perfect specimen to come out of Headlock Studio to date. This easily takes place as the favorite for me, even over the Lil’ Diablo. Gill - Man is easily my favorite Universal movie monster, as well as Creature From the Black Lagoon bein’ my favorite classic sci - do/horror movie. Kid Creature’s got somethin’ about those eyes. Completely agree, the best Universal Monster. I know it will be tough to get 1, but I'll be posting many prayer hands and fingers crossed trying.
