Here we go - finally a chance to get some interesting toy-related posts on the dusty old Skullbrain boards.. please share your Top 5 pickups (not necessarily 2017 releases) for the year. Hopefully it's been a good year in the toy game for everybody :)

It's a tough choice - I could easily do a Top 20 but here's 5 monsters that I'm very happy to have on my shelves:

    (5) Scummy Joe by Paul Kaiju from Ring of Fire show at Death's Vault. My favorite piece from the show.

    (4) Doji 2.0 / Crying Man mashup by Grody Shogun from Death's Vault backpack sale. First ever debut of Doji 2.0

    (3) Otus by OwlToy. Got extremely lucky on the sales board. Love the character design on this toy. Amazing texture work too.

    (2)
Flying Freak DX by MVH, unpainted double pour by Science Patrol. Insane! Really shows the detail of the DX / Flying Freak. Inner pour glows!

    (1) Pheyaos Man. Been hunting this toy for years, got lucky again on the sales board. My first real "grail" want. Only took like 5 years to find. Love it.

Couldn't be happier with my scores this year. Plenty of runner-ups too. Check out my Instagram for more photos. Going to all the Death's Vault shows and meeting everyone was also pretty amazing. I'm looking forward to 2018!

It isn't that I can't count. I just couldn't get it down to five.I just want to post everything from the year as being a favorite.

This was a really great year (aren't they all in vinyl land) with my Itokin collection getting a massive, surprising, and deeply grateful boost thanks to an old school board member.

I am ever grateful to the artists, retailers, traders, and collectors who make this so fun and dynamic. One of the best things about being an adult is spoiling the child within.

Already excited for drops, lotteries, and events of 2018!

Fuck yeah!! Great to see what people picked up (and are still excited about) over the past 12 months.. some really great toys here. @blakewest that brodarr mashup is super goofy-looking, was that a release or a one-off?

Unsure if it's an 'old man' thing (always lovin' a deal) or just coincidence, but my top 5 of 2017 were all gifted or super-cheap finds . . .

2017 was a pretty trying year for me. Lots of downs. Some ups. Ohhh life’s ever rolling coaster. But I can say that my collection had a better year than I did. Here is my group & although not to many “new” toys defiantly some grails picked up from some of my favorite artist. Check the spoilers for individual pics and discrips & thank you to anyone who may have helped in the acquisition of some of these fine pieces.

Probably one of my favorite versions of Shirahamas Neko “My Bloddy Valentine” version from the 2016 lucky bags. A beautiful chunk of Marbled Vinyl.
The ever elusive Boss Carrion by Paul Kaiju. A piece that I struggled with getting for years. Finally landed my first and on my birthday! How fitting. This is the “Birthday Boss” from SDCC 2011 and he is a beauty. Cast on Custard GID vinyl with a nice array of birthday cake sprays.
Another great find that was a mistery. Or should I say MR. REE. Paul’s every changing zany characters have always amazed me but the REE was a favorite from the start. The “Dokoro Disco” REE is cast in clear but dyed blue/purple by the man himself. Complete with a GID space suit ready for intergalactic adventure.

Now this next one was a sculpt I discovered this year. Got some info about it and then was tipped off to one for sale from an awesome friend. He came all the way from the land down under to spend the rest of his days with me. Kubiryu the Three headed dragon. Originally by Masudaya is cast on GID vinyl with a beautiful subtle metallic pink/teal/purple spray. A crazy. Weird. Organic and lovely piece.

Finally, as you all know I am a Shirahama kumon addict. This one was a search. I tracked through two different collections and when I saw that it changed hands for a 3rd time I had to give him a permanent home. This was for sure a grail version that I am able to now call mine. IMO the best kumon version. A beautiful virus style paint over GID vinyl one off. This Kumon is everything.

All in All what a fabulous year for collecting. It was pretty hard to pick just 5 I was able to attend every show at deaths vault and pick up some pretty amazing pieces but these 5 I just love to death. Thanks for looking!!! See you in 2018!!
