The hour flew by for me. The Walt and Jesse showdown was incredibly tense. It looked like Jesse was totally commited and his head was about to explode. I got the feeling that Gus had unfinished business in the hospital. Talk to Brock's doctors maybe? Then again there was a lingering shot of Walt's glasses on his head that might have given away his position.

So many loose ends... Is Beneke dead? Is Mike ok?

On an abrupt sidenote... This weekend we held a launch party for RAGE in LA and I had the great privilege of meeting Vince Gilligan, co executive producer Melissa Bernstein, and Aaron Paul. I barely remember what we talked about because my heart was in my throat. They suffered me well and were incredibly humble and down to earth.

    Edit
Haha Kirkland beat me to it! But yeah there's my big face cluttering up your forum. You're welcome!

That last scene with Gus was unbelievable. At first I was like no fucking way he 'senses something is wrong'. The guy is not a Jedi Master. But I guess that's how they're writing it. If he is, as Walt says ten moves ahead of them all the time then he must have sensed it was too easy, and sensed the trap. I think he's going to go back tell Jesse "Change of plans you're coming with me" or make up some reason why he needs him to come along right at that moment because he wants Jesse as a safety valve in that car ride back. All of this is far fetched and kind of annoying, but makes good television I guess.

One thing that is bothering me is the half truth/lies everyone is getting from each other. Kind of sloppy writing. Like Jesse assuming it was Walt who called the DEA and had Gomez come look. I was banging my head saying please Walt explain to him, I'm so tired of half lies floating around everywhere. Saying "I had to have the DEA protect my family", only reinforces the lie to me at least, leading Jesse to believe he blabbed the whole operation to the DEA which could not be further from the truth.

I also felt the Jesse/Walt scene felt a little forced but no biggie. A lot of people seem to have felt a little let down by this episode, but consider ... the last few ended so spectacularly that the momentum needed a breather before the season ender, which you know is going to deliver in some way.

I'd never considered that Gus may have a bent DEA connection, but if it's Steve Gomez that might explain his reluctance to inspect the laundry, the half-baked manner in which he did it, and his reason for talking the manager out of a more elaborate inspection with a warrant ... maybe even his misdirection regarding heroin instead of meth.

I heard a funny story about Aaron Paul. Other than Cranston the actors generally only know what's going to happen two or three scripts ahead. There have allegedly been several times when Cranston and Gilligan approached Paul to shake his hand and say "it's really been a pleasure working with you, and I wish you all the best with your career" to give him the impression that his character is about to be killed off. Apparently Paul falls for the prank every time and freaks out a little.

wizeguy I didn't love "Drive," didn't hate it. It's an art house tone poem disguised as a mainstream movie. So many references to David Lynch, Steve McQueen, "The Killing of a Chinese Bookie" and countless forgotten '70s/'80s B-movies. It's more about style than substance and I can totally appreciate that many will hate it.

it would make sense that Gus has a mole in DEA. Is the mole Steve? maybe...

"I'm on the board of this hospital."

Is there anywhere that Gus is not?

Yeah, that's where I got the story, thanks again for the recommendation. Those guys are fun to listen to but I don't know about some of their theories. Sometimes they miss really obvious stuff ... still it's a good listen ... they make it fun.

I gave a listen to the Breaking Good podcast for the first time last night. I've decided I'm glad it's out there, but I'll stick to interviews with the various cast and crew members when I want my aural fix. The well intentioned hosts definitely had a few good things to say, and the show was more entertaining than maddening, but it really lost me at various points, like when they not only had never heard of Mr. Chips, but refused to look up the reference... thus continuing down a wrong-headed theoretical path.

I'd highly recommend the source for several points of the BG boys chatting foder - The recent Fresh Air interviews with Aaron Paul and Vince Gilligan.

I just saw today that Marc Maron's addictive podcast WTF will be host to Bryan Cranston this Thursday. I'm Listening to Maron's interview with Lixx's very best friend Jon Hamm as I type this.

I drive a truck for my day job so I listen to all your sources :)

Can't wait for the WFT this Thursday, that's gonna be great. The NPR interview was fantastic, but Aaron Pauls spot was to short. ,

I tried listening to the official BB podcast but they have no clue how to set up the microphones. Everyones sound levels are always off. It's hard to listen to.

Bald move isn't perfect like you mentioned but for what it's worth it's the best to me.

Relax, sweetie. I just remember what I've read, and this little beauty...
...was only about a month ago.

I recall it specifically because I was going to post some thoughts on Mad Men at the time but decided against it. Didn't want to rankle ya'!

Eyes back on the TV, people. Nothing to see here.

Exactly. Even if all they knew was that Mr. Chips was a school teacher, they would have understood the reference (to Walt) instead of speculating aimlessly. Less than sixty seconds with Google or Wikipedia would have resolved that for them. Similarly, they need to look up Spanish words that they don't know. Even when someone finally explained to them that "zafiro" means "sapphire," they still didn't seem to quite get it. (And they thought the stopper on the bottle was fire until someone told them it was an agave plant LOL.) Plus they're totally convinced that Gus is gay which is an interesting point of speculation, but they take too far with the "he's in love with Jesse" line of thinking. I think the writers wouldn't mind us wondering if Gus is gay but I'm not convinced it really matters either way. Still, I'm going to keep listening for awhile ... it makes a long commute I take each week go by faster. Totally get where you're coming from with that Rich.

Thanks for the podcast links David.

Who cares, don't call me sweetie, because as funny and articulate you think you are you're not. Don't appreciate the condescending tone either. Tell me are you running for mayor of skullbrain? Because I love when my inbox fills up with congratulations on calling you out here every time.

I don't think it's about sensing, more likely to be discipline. Gus left the car unguarded and someone that has cameras everywhere would probably think twice before picking up a car that has been left there without anyone keeping an eye on it (especially considering what had just happened with Jessie et al).
Oh and congratulations to Meczilla, meeting Aaron Paul must be a blast :)

Golly. I thought you put me on ignore, Lixx...

My PM box was busy that day too, sir. I'm happy with the positive feedback I get here, both in PM and posts, and if anyone has something to say to me that's negative I welcome it. I'm not running for anything around here, just, as do you, running my mouth.

I appreciate dialog, which includes disagreement, but can't say I'm a big fan of name calling and character assassination. I will say that if you don't appreciate a condescending tone you probably shouldn't use one yourself. We share a lot of the same interests, it seems, and if ever I've bothered to reply to one of your posts directly it's not that I've disagreed with the heart of what you're saying, it's the tone of superiority that catches in my ear.

I don't think anyone here wants to watch this little tiff, so let's leave it at that. Sorry I mentioned you. I'll try to avoid it in the future.

I did. Then I saw Rich's reply to you and saw you mentioned my name- YET again.

Yet, you'll use it whenever possible with calling me sweetie or insert a witty quote like: "Violence is the sign-language of the inarticulate". Newsflash: Anger, or in your case severe annoyance, is best served bluntly and direct to the point. I don't get out the flowers, light a campfire, prepare to serenade you with Kumbaya, and talk about Existentialism all night. I don't need twenty paragraphs to ARTICULATE what I'm saying.

We don't share a lot of similar interests. We happen to both like kaiju (probably not much of the same there either) and Breaking Bad. The former is why we're here, and the latter is because TV is a vast wasteland full of crap and everyone has an opinion on the 1% of shows that don't suck.

As far as being condescending and being pretentious there is a difference. Condescending is saying something with malice, where as you saying I'm a lot pretentious, that's purely objective and open to interpretation. I had an opinion on Grody. I expressed it. If you perceived it as pretentious then so be it. You know long before you arrived here people spoke their mind. Sure there were flare ups from time to time but YOU could speak your mind and herd mentality be damned. People are so afraid of their standing here, or whether they should like what others like- to speak out when they dislike something. I for one always will (speak my mind).

Probably will work out for the best in the long run.

Yep, condescending and pretentious are different things. Pretentious was the word TiredChildren used, and in that case I agreed. Didn't seem worth it to add to the pile of words and prepare a serenade involving past condescension, too. We agree about more things in this world than you're comfortable with, Lixx, but feel free to [insert word] to me about my overall likes and dislikes, too.

Whatever I agree with or disagree with in your public dissection of my post doesn't really matter - I'd be happy to take it to PM land with you.

Skidoo is a crazy movie - now that it's finally easy to see you all should have a look!

    We nitpick because we care.

Wow.That was a great article, Dean! I tend to avoid reading any criticism before I've seen a film or finished a seasons run of a series, but Goodman's going to be difficult to keep away from come next year. Thanks for the solid tip.

Thanks for the link. That interview was very in depth with Bryan Cranston. I am so glad he let him talk, most interviewers have such huge egos that they never let the person you really want to hear talk.
