That painting is amazing! I did some small paintings of my cats as well as my mother's cat and stepmother's dog (just consider him a weird cat for this thread) recently. Lulu by Doug Hardy, on Flickr Rokit by Doug Hardy, on Flickr Mister Kitty by Doug Hardy, on Flickr Cosmo by Doug Hardy, on Flickr
So I have a family of cats living under my houses crawl space. 1 mom and maybe 3 or 4 kits. I went to the store and bought a small bag of dry cat food. It's all I can do until I can get some one out to take care of the animals. But I know the mom must of been starving cause it ate almost a full bowl and a half of food. The moms cool with me now but the kittens are still skittish. And there's at least one of the kitties lol.
You are definitely a hero for stepping in to care for them. The Mom will have a voracious appetite, as she needs extra calories to produce milk, and recover her strength from carrying and birthing the little ones. Is the area water proof, and if not, could you add a tarp to ward off moisture and protect from wind? Thanks for looking after them, the food is essential! Please put out a dish of fresh water daily, that's also a great help, so that they don't have to go out looking for water. BTW, great photos!
Got a new housemate this week. Her name is Roxie. Still working on getting her and my old cat used to each other. I'm following some advice to keep them separated, then swap their locations after a few days so they can get used to each other's scents. Also have an extra high pet gate coming, so I can move on to letting them meet on either sides of the gate. Fingers crossed. Sorry for the blur and hamper in the shot. She's hard to photograph.
Thanks for taking care of the new family @Headhunter . How are the kittens making out these days? I know things are a bit unusual right now, but most places will have a shelter or at least support network to take care of them. Depending on how large the litter is, and conditions, it could be better for them for longer term protection and health. Welcome to the new addition, @blakewest. I am sure she will be settling in in no time. Now to train her not to knock over all those toys. Oh who am I kidding, we are taking about cats here. @toothaction Always nice to see Pibbs making new friends.
The kitties are doing really good so far. I've been checking on all of them three times a day. Making sure they are all well feed and have plenty of water to drink during the much hotter day. And playing with them and spending time with them on my lunch breaks when I'm not working. I'm working on that part still. Gotta be able to pick them up and putt them in cages to take to the rescue first. Two of the three cats are still rather skittish. A second ones coming around so it's just taking time.
As a stranger entering the household, aka kitteh domain, Surnia gets the appropriate level of skeptical scrutiny at the Cats' Welcome.
Thanks to the topic's name, I actually know what I'm looking at... otherwise, I would have had no idea !!!
Given my past history of VERY low budget film making (voice from the back: "cough cough, can you call it that?!"), you'd be forgiven for thinking I was attempting to beat Godzilla vs Kong to the box office by staging my own version... However, these two are great pals and decided to spend last night just starring at each other, whilst laying on his mat. Who said cats and dogs don't get along; these two could teach many humans a thing or two about living in harmony.
This is a perfect portrait of the relationship between my two cats. They can stand to be in the same space but only with sufficient separation and no, they will not look at each other. You can pick your friends, but you can't pick family.
Ha! Double posting, but it's been a few months... Got this fantastic portrait today of the Queen of the house, Roxie, by the wonderful @Fig Belly. Thank you! The humans in the house appreciate it even if she can't be bothered.
Not sure if I've posted this before, but it's one of my favs. Someone was just asking me about Pallas cats (Otocolobus manul)
