I feel like that kappa would’ve been a decent standalone figure if it was, like, $40. The stacked heads, while I “get it”, doesn’t do anything for it as a whole in my opinion. And while I appreciate legitimate packaging that goes the extra mile, I can only assume the wooden box is gonna jack the price the fuck up.

 

I saw another photo of a couple with the guy in a different green Nazi uniform, but they look suspiciously like the couple above. Maybe fake weddings in Nazi uniform, then? Which is possibly even weirder ...

I don’t know the price they already sold because there must be at least half a dozen of them sitting around so around 500 asking. But in the past that was always about his asking retail. Looks like the flips didn’t work out and now people are just trying to get what they paid.

I'm really out of the loop w these gojis. Who makes them? How much do they retail? Why are so many being painted? Theyre not the style of toy I would collect, but am very curious why so many are being destroyed.

Because it gets discussed here semi frequently when Japanese artists have the Buddhist symbol on their toys, I found this video pretty interesting. I’ve only recently been watching this channel, but this older video popped up in my suggested. Japanese folks on the street are asked about Manji and then questioned about the shit nazi swastika. Some of the answers were a bit surprising. It’s in a spoiler ‘cause the shitty symbol is in the thumbnail.

Doesn't surprise me really, being the fairly insular country it is. I would assume they're not proud of their involvement in the war, so its not high on the list of historical things to teach kids. Strange how you'd know about Hitler but not recognise the Swastika ...

@The Moog I thought the same thing, about knowing Hitler but not the symbol. But then again there’s no clarification to the extent of knowledge about Hitler, and whether or not the symbol is omitted because of the native history to Manji. But it didn’t surprise me that the older gentleman expressed his discontent for the lack of education about the history of it to younger generations.

@Mr Fox Wholeheartedly agree on the difference of approach. The cosplaying and themes and memorabilia come from a place of shock value, for which I cannot excuse.

same here. That was an interesting video @xSuicide Squadx but it just re-enforced something I’ve always known: teenagers/young people are the worst. Read a book, educate yourselves; fucking learn about the world around you. I get that Japan, in hindsight, might not be proud of their role in WWII, but they played a part, and history of that scope cannot not be taught to young people. We’re not even 100 years removed from it. Do they teach about the Pacific theater of WWII in schools in Japan? Do they teach them the history the hydrogen bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? I can’t imagine that they don’t; and as such they should probably also be teaching students the basics about Nazism, Hitler and what they did throughout Europe. Germany doesn’t omit the shameful history when teaching their students.

I’m sorry but this shit gets to me. My grandparents both lived through WWII in Germany and the Ukraine as teenagers before immigrating to the United States; they lost family and friends because of the Nazis. Regardless of where you are from, what the Nazis did should be taught so that such brutality is never repeated anywhere. Just as much as the dropping of two hydrogen bombs should be taught to remind everyone of the danger and destructive power of nuclear weapons.

I get it, that traditional Japan is an insular nation; but we’re a globally interconnected world here in the 21st century. People need to open their eyes and educate themselves about the wider world. ESPECIALLY something as world changing as WWII. I mean shit, it’s not called “World War Two” for nothing. It impacted nearly everyone on this planet when it happened, and the repercussions (good and bad) continue to be felt 80+ years later.

tl;dr: young people need to read a book once in a while.

 

@hellopike Before even finishing reading your post in totality I had already began thinking “World War should be a clear indication and incentive for virtually widespread education on the destruction”. So I fully agree. The devastation and long term effects on the world, as you mentioned, still felt to this day is something I think should inherently be taught in schools as a testament to what was and very much still can be.

Like you, I have family who were directly effected by WWI and II, on both sides. I have family who fled Germany when they saw the Nazi party coming to power and were vehemently opposed to what it stood for. They moved to a country that ended up being occupied by the Germans (you can imagine how they were viewed by both occupiers and the occupied!) and post war moved to North America to get as far away from Germany as possible. I also have family that served in the British Army, Navy and RAF, including the WAF in WWII, so I feel directly connected to it.

Ignorance of history, and worse still genocide, only allows for a greater chance of repeating the same mistakes.

 

PS - I am also going to put it out there that I have a horrible feeling that some of the people who buy toys with manji on them don't have a clue that it isn't a swastika and actually don't know the difference; however, just like shrivelled junk, vaginas and other things added to make the toy 'edgy' and/or 'tough' looking, a symbol of hate (even one that is misinterpreted by the ignorant) just adds to the appeal. For me, it just negates it manji or not.

 

Just out of sheeeer curiosity and not trying to yank chains as I know someone will stick their head in it. Just wondering what the proper protocol would be for the western market?
