I was watching Ultraman Leo on Tubi. On episode 9 at 5:58 in when Ultraman Leo has his first fight with Guiro Seiju at the Kaiju Army Show you can spot a few Bullmark toys being used as scale reference. I spotted mini Oil Drinker and Astromons and standard size EXPORT (HAWAII) versions of Alien Mertron, Gomora and Garamon (!!!). Could someone with skills please post a screen capture of that here? Thanks so much in advance.
I got this screen shot from the beginning of the fight. Later on you can see little mini-statues of Ultraseven and Arstron at the tops of the structures but they don't seem like toys. Guiron is adorable.
Thank you, Roger!! I saw those also and agree they are not toys. Really like the pachi kaiju on display at the kaiju army show.
Found some more monster toys in-universe. I watched Final Wars tonight, and there’s some quick fanservice for the collectors. In this clip, I can make out Bandai Baragon and what looks like a blank red M1 Titanosaurus. I think most of the other stuff here are Bandai China toys, but the kid was holding what looks like a Marmit Vinyl Paradise Kumonga & another soft vinyl toy I didn’t recognize a couple seconds before this shot.
Technically not sofubi, but still counts. Just saw this on instagram today. View this post on Instagram With accessory no less! Even better is that this is the Japanese import, before the Mattel versions I am guessing.
Not sofubi per se, but a popular subject: https://twitter.com/tokyo_scope/status/1364473190827786243?s=20
And seijin, too! (I know you all know, just wanted to sprinkle some more Panter-magic here). ¨ Edit: Reduced image size
Honestly, not totally bizarre, but more of a welcome surprise. I couldn't find clear photos of them, but the 'Chester's & Hester's' gift shop in Animal Kingdom in Disney World has some classic soft vinyl dinos up in the nooks and crannies. Spotted them when I was last down there over two years ago now.
Oh I was always wondering this about that store! That’s so cool, once it’s safer to travel I can’t wait to peek inside. That’ll be a nice lil’ treat for a park land with such a bizarre and unique history.
Definitely spotted a couple Godzilla figures up around the train tracks that weave around the ceiling and walls. That was 3 years ago now though. Can't wait to go back!
Dor Mei Godzilla (same as the one seen in 'Roseanne'). The Wire (S01E10) when McNulty is searching Wallace's house.
This thread reminded me of my trip to Europe pre-covid. I ended up at Dover Street Market in London, and there's a Paul Smith basement section, that randomly gets stocked with things that he either likes or sells personally. If you've ever been to a DSM, it was pretty jarring to see a few Super7 figures and a variety of vintage kaiju, some pre-owned, some brand new. I ended up leaving with a few Kinnikuman by Five Star Toy. “You never, ever know quite what you’re going to find in there.” – Paul Smith
Looks like Sergio Aragones is a Nakajima fan! Pretty certain that's Ultraman taking a knee, US Toys style, just above his head. Here's hoping for a full video tour of that shelf.
