Welcome! Although we own very little, my wife and I are big fans of oddities (loved the TV shows of the same name) and all things dark (Marilyn Manson, etc.). She keeps telling me that she wants to decorate our next house with those items. Oh, and I did just buy my younger son a "wet specimen" mantis shrimp. GutterKnight, I too am from Florida, albeit a little further south (and east). Welcome aboard!
Hello everyone, my name is Thomas i'm from the north of France. The toy crazyness got me a year ago, the lowbrow art led me to designer/art toys then i discovered sofubis and my mind was blown. I really love vintage japanese toys, keshi and like to keep me updated on what's newly made by modern makers. I'm fond of weird and beautiful stuff, sci fi, fantasy and post apocalyptic settings. i'm a violin maker, i like to make stuff with my hand. Always wanted to try sculpting and toys are a great medium to do neat stuff, so i may have tried to make something just for fun. I don't know what else to say, i'm happy to be a member of this forum and thank you !
Welcome welcome welcome!!! Enjoy the board. Don't ask stupid questions, always search first and you will do fine here. Always open for questions on my end though. Enjoy the community.
Hi Thomas I've been collecting about the same time and it was also through a love of lowbrow art that got me into sofubi and brought me here. Ive found being on SB really helpful in both locating toys I was after and info on makers I don't think I'd have heard of otherwise. I hope SB is as good to you as it has been to me! Bob
@Maxrez - Hey, man, I guess that's I guess that's the something you "may have tried to make" you've got linked here. I don't really care too much for the "ugly" type aesthetic, but I like the proportions on this guy, and with that smile, this guy has some charm! Neat. I remember reading Juxtopoz back when it was the only forum for lowbrow, and I thought a lot of the designer/art toys were pretty cool, but I never really got into collecting. I do still think it's pretty funny that I was seeing stuff from guys like Biskup, Woodring and Kozik who do do the soft vinyl thing, and it's a little weird to think it was in right front of me so long ago. Welcome!
@Nuggets303420 Thank you for your welcomes ! @nefasth Oui c'est de moi. Au plaisir de te lire. @Bob Very glad to be here it's such a goldmine of informations ! @Odibex I have to admit, when i started making Moche i was in my MVH period. After a while i started discovering more and more vintage design and realising how wrong i was to make something in the "ugly" trend. But it was a fun experience and i really like the paintjobs on many ugly vinyls. there was a time i started a blog about lowbrow, there was not many ressources on it on the internet. But i was too lazy to continue Thanks everyone !
Well, I don't want to say there's anything wrong with that style, many people like it (as clearly evidenced buy those prices), including many folks here. But some things do transcend their genre. I love Retrobrand's MEATS, and that's pretty ugly, and I like your guy, too! But tastes do change. I am totally not into the stuff I started out buying. Lots of people here like that stuff, though, so.. maybe I wasn't so wrong to begin with, haha.
My name is Gary! A former tokusatsu junkie who never lost his love for King Joe. My main hobbies are beer and cycling, but have made it a goal in life to collect assorted King Joe figures. I live the boring life of a mild mannered 30-something in St. Louis.
Hey all Cue here from southern california. Long time collector and have kinda always just would look on the board but never participated. After meeting alot of people at events over the years decided to try it out over here, thanks for having me!
Hey everybody, my name is Max and I'm a lifelong tokusatsu fan and lover of sofubi. I've been lurking SB for a while now and I'm happy to finally be a member of the community.
Hey guys! Name is Justin, but I go by Banshee/Banshee Toys everywhere else. Born in Japan but raised in the US, and got bit by the sofubi bug after visiting Lulubell a few years back. Been doing resin toys for a while, almost done on my first release, and eventually trying to make my way into the soft vinyl medium. Really dig Rumble Monsters, Sunguts, Science Patrol and Rampage/Gravy/Bwanaspoons. Thanks for the add and can't wait to meet more collectors and artists on here!
Not quite so fast, Goon Scum. No wait, with a name like Goon Scum you'll fit right in @BansheeToys - I got a disproportionate amount of stuff from Lulu when I started collecting. And... I'm waiting on a pre-order from them now, actually Welcome, guys.
Hi there! I'm Kaura, 23 California. Been turned on to vinyl toys by my boyfriend. So far a fan of Paul Kaiju and Blobpus and even some Ferg figures. Hope to meet more of yall very soon.
Hi, Kaura! A pleasure to have you. Pardon the delay on my handshake, I've been busy burying my head in comix and neglecting the toy aisles.
Welcome to the board everyone. Great to see some new folks drift in via classic tokusatsu inspirations, we can never have too many. Enjoy the board, the people, and the many tomes of pages to sift through. Hope each of you finds your place among the community over the years to come.
Hello, my name's Milton. I currently live in Kansas City. I'm on Instagram @hopelesstoys and on Facebook miltonkaiju. I've been a lurker here for a while but haven't posted much of anything; I love seeing the toys in your collections. Last year I retired from tattooing but recently picked up a desk job to fund my own toy-making dreams. I'd love to get to know more people who collect like I do. I'm looking to sell or trade items I've acquired for some I've been hunting for. Since the rules say I need to post first, here ya go. Here's to hoping quarters thrown into wells make wishes come true.
Hey all! I'm Taimur, and you'll never have to pronounce that. I've spent about three years collecting western vinyl, and slowly began my creep into sofubi this March when I won the lotto for the Instinctoy-painted edition of Black Seed's Yu Shou Long (my avatar!). For the most part, I stayed in the comfortable fast-food world of clean paint and detailed digital sculpts—but recently, some conversations with old friends whose bizarre interests I never understood before have pulled me into the world of full-fat, grass-fed sofubi. My Mandarake wishlist grows by the day, and my old vinyl friends are watching on in horror as I post up grails that they saw me amass over months and years, looking for trades with weird fleshy lumps and tentacled horrors. I quickly found that all my old groups weren't cutting it, and I needed a community with the shared knowledge to teach me a thing or two about the massive, knotty world of artists, customisers, toy platforms and the histories behind them all. And more importantly, I needed friends who 'got it.' So I'm here! You can find me on IG at @capitalistautomaton, and if you're active on the FB sofubi scene we might already know each other! Right now my interests are pretty vanilla—some Mirock, a little MVH, that one Hyper Kraken everyone wants and no-one wants to pay a grand for—but I'm looking forward to all of you pushing me further and further into weirdness until all I collect is obscure foetus dolls and ultra-limited kaiju that look exactly the same as the dirt-cheap blanks lining Japanese markets. Thank you all for having me.
Hi! Finally got added...thanks mods! Work in San Francisco and travel the globe on the hunt for toys that make me smile! I'm on instagram with same username and constantly looking for cool toys to display. Who knows, maybe one day I will be selling my own twisted creations...
^ We do alright. Hi, @BIGDZ68! Looking forward to some shelf shares from you to pretty up our threads.
