i just dont understand the rainbow cut outs on the torso. maybe it would have been more effective if the shapes were cleaner?

 

I was gonna say something about those stripes(...!! ) but I guess I didn’t have to and I’m assuming that’s why it’s here.

 

i like when artists ignore the sculpts "natural" lines. but i stand by the opinion that it has to look deliberate. it shouldnt look like you hesitated or werent confident in your idea.


izumo-san put out a shikabane kaiju a while back at a TAG show and it was a GID blank with thinned red paint splatter across the front. and it was awesome. a little experimental (on the safer side) but deliberate and cool

 

I feel like those colors could have totally worked if it wasn’t for the mismatched stripes on the chest and belly, if they had only worked WITH the shape and grooves of the sculpt!

I had to google the name of that toy (Shikabane) because I didn’t recognize it...
I’m pretty sure it’s on this thread under the “burnt turd/ nag ripoff” category. No amount of splatter paint apps (which certainly didn’t originate with izumonster) could help that toy.

 

shikabane translates to "corpse" and the alternate head is a fulci Zombie reference. but i completely understand people absolutely hating it

im sure plenty of people have splattered paint. Luke Grody comes to mind. but my point is the same. unconventional applications of paint always look best when you can see the artists' intent vs. seeing their hesitation

 

Oh I agree with you. And no amount of nice paintwork can save a bad toy. What’s the phrase? “You can polish a burnt turd, but in the end it is still just a burnt turd” that izumonster stuff, to me just smacks of a cash grab by someone who saw the nonsensical amount of money people were shelling out for the various nagnagnag toys and emulated it. Just like all the copy cat hxs designs, be it gorilla or mechs... and now the flavor of the month is tiger.

It's an interesting idea, like painting up Greedo like Walrus Man, but the end result isn't as fun.

 

Not the kind of abomination that thrives here, but the proportions on this (bootleg?) did make me stop scrolling.
