You'd have to be pretty fucked to get your sofubi made in China.
Any convention you're not enjoying is a convention you shouldn't attend.

i think they teamed up with the famous monsters booth to do some toys this year. kindda sad to see such a classic brand watered down to this instead of trying to do something more like what justin did with the two headed guy.

Skinner drop, S7, and some artist booths are the best part of inside sdcc this year.

Those fish monsters are rather neat to look at as well as a couple of the other items. However those Ron English painted pieces are very painful to look at.

Hate to bring all the rain down here, but the complete dearth of posting on this board about anything SDCC-related sort of tells me what I already expected and what a lot of folks here and elsewhere have alluded to, the convention is all but dead for anything outside of mainstream companies and media promotion. And certainly the sofubi side of things seems to have all but disappeared. As much as some of the stuff presented there is of interest to me (as a general nerd) it's a shame to see it become so inaccessible for the average person, and so far removed from what any fan or comic convention (in my mind) should be. At least there are still some lasting events that are worthwhile, which all seem to be 'outside' of the con (also very telling), like Paul/Bwana's Summer Slime. Ah well, I'll slink back to my corner now, feel free to post yours pics/stories from the weekend. Hope everyone that attended had a blast!

Meeting Frank Miller, chatting with Sergio Aragones, and going through the mind boggling awesome Blade Runner 2049 Experience (across the street from the con center) were '17 highlights. Booth wise, Super7 had some neat licensed stuff, and DKE's assortment of carded indie toys was fantastic. Pics and videos on KK soon.

kinda shocked super7 doesn't have any sofubi releases. oh how times have changed...
though maybe they are holding back for dcon, and keeping sdcc more for licensed stuff?

Seems not enough vinyl fans go into SDCC anymore. Your thoughts are mine exactly.

I'm a little disappointed I'm not going this year, Mondo has some awesome releases(I've been mostly disappointed with their releases lately). The Beast is Back/Night Cake Press has some awesome Kaiju inspired stuff too.

I hope so. I regret not buying those left over Beast Man and Skeletor Sofubi pieces last year when I went. I even passed on the Super 7 Blind Bag cause I was trying to be conservative with cash since its easy to spend shit tons of money on a few pieces. They didn't seem to have a whole lot other than the blind bags anyways.

If I did get the chance to go to Sdcc id be mainly going to for hard to find Funko Pop!'s and comic books anyways.

If I go to Five Point or Dcon it will be mainly for Japanese and Chinese sofubi. Everything else non related would just be a bonus.

Every year I tell myself I'll be at SDCC and every year I disappoint myself. I went to NYCC a few years ago to vend in the Artists Block but that was the only time.

    SDCC Photo Request:

Could someone get pics of the various artist-painted He-Man masks at the Mattel booth, please? I know that Pushead and Skinner have masks. Some pics have shown up on IG, but if there are other masks, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I think one of the coolest toys I saw this year were mini Kirin Billy by chairman 666. They weren't for sale though....so....I'm saving my money for summer slime
