Oh so crazy Japanese bass lures

It’s been mentioned here before that many of the Japanese sofubi factories also pull fishing lures. So here is a thread to share vinyl and other wild Japanese lures. Don’t get snagged though most of these lures can run 2500 to 20000 yen.

Did you know old street toy maker Spanky has made some lures.

How about Mad Toyz, are these one in the same, minus the Z? Sure looks like something creature Kenny would make and he’s posted Mad Toyz bass lures before.

how about some Misfits and some nice finky lures? Bass love em!

Pretty rad and refreshingly new thread, Joe! I’m terrible at fishing, but the few times I have attempted it was rather relaxing. Never thought to really look into lures being made by minds familiar to toys, or that they’d be influenced from which some toys are derived. I hope more Brainers look into this, even if just for fun and contribution. I did come across this profile on Instagram: @ madhandpainting. Figured this would be a cool profile to check out.

    Mad Hand’s painting/sculpting desk:

These two terrible photos are ones I badly snapped in 2015 during my tour of Kamijo Mold Factory. They’re of original blow molds to make lures, and the celluloid sheets they’re made from. Pardon the quality of the images. Outside of not knowing what the hell I was doing five years ago, the original images reside on an external hard drive somewhere, and these were ripped from the Lulubell blog.

Those Duckle ones are cool. I always see those soft vinyl Kazzrock Duckle with the Taboo1 Ill Bros mascot toys. It’s cool to see there’s lures of them, too!

That King Joe up top and the flying Gamera are probably my two favorites of this entire thread thus far, though. Especially the flying Gamera!!!

Ha, came here to say this very thing. King Joe and flying Gamera are tops! I want to play with these, as much as I want to try fishing with them (though frankly I'll take a good ol' Rapala or Mepps anyday).

I’ll be honest since starting this thread I’ve pulled the trigger on a few of these lures, including the mazinger, Robocon, and Gamera. I don’t even have a spin or bait casting set up anymore, been fly fishing exclusively for the last 15 years. But I have a random shelf of mostly still bagged stuff I figure they will look cool on.

But I am tempted to go get a spinning reel and tie one on. I guess the benefit of lures Is if you get tired of them, instead of selling them off for half of what you paid you can just start to fish them until you break them off and lose them.

What I'm learning is that lure collectors are very picky, but bass aren't.

Somewhere, a group of hardcore aesthete bass have a message board with a highly active thread titled, "The fugliest lures you have seen while feeding"...

From what I've discovered in Japan there is a style of bass fishing called "Silly Style" which uses lures like these. Though there are images out there of big bass with these lures in their mouth, I think you would have to put a lot of time in to catch a bass on some of these lures.
