Late realisation, but I'm starting to really appreciate the curvature on all this guy's spider limbs. Besides making Kumon look the part, the curved arms and limbs on the head make it really easy to hold it in one hand and adjust the pose, which comes in handy for big displays and photos Just really nice to see the sculpting make for a great handling experience as well.
@xSuicide Squadx Amazing photo Robert, It makes you appreciate all the details of the sculpture and marbling, the vein of the black vinyl in the skull makes it look rude, as if it were the WF Zombie Kumon version.
@Alebrije Thank you, Roger! More than anything, I love using these black box photos as a means/opportunity to highlight and accentuate sculptural and painted details. So in that regard, I’m glad I have been successful. What I love most about the Kumon are the unrealistic textures to an actual spider, yet there’s something about the smoothness and arrangement of each curvature that makes it recognizable as an arachnid. The skull is so damn perfect.

This might be unwarranted, but based on everything I'm seeing across the different aftermarket channels, the Japanese shows are attracting an absolute ton of flippers, both opportunistic and professional. Last night I was offered a totally new maker's toy that will debut at the Mandarake festival 20k jpy plus the retail cost, per item. Whoever is receiving that payout will make out like a bandit. And this for a slender Henshin Cyborg-type guy that looks not more than 5" tall. I don't mean to fling salt at the fact that I personally can't get these. Toys will come and go and half the fun of a con is special releases for attendees. But you have to wonder how many toys are reaching real collectors who make the trip, and not propping up someone's YJA business. Or a particular toy store, for that matter.
There was one elsewhere for about $130 the other day. Sold quickly to say the least. Now another for $100 more .
I think the red Kumon could be a one-off but I'm not sure, I know that here on the board there are great lovers of these beautiful spiders who may have some extra information. Welcoming the family!
I believe I have seen a couple of the red with blue tips one was unpainted and this painted one is probably the same as the other I have seen. Awesome piece. I believe those were pulled around the same time as the initial rainy day kumon. I have one that was used in the same colors for a floating marble version, similar to the koningu pulled the exact same way, if that points you into a time frame for when it was pulled.
@HardDragon Thank you! Yes I have seen the other rainy day Kumon with red paint inside that you mention and I have also seen yours which is a beauty, but according to me it is the only one I have seen with a complete paint job.
A little delayed but here's the set I got up from Monsterpalooza this year. I had no idea there was going to be a raffle or that these would even be sold there. It was a huge surprise! Really makes them so much more special for me. Unfortunate to see someone selling their set on eBay for an exorbitant price.
Thanks to your wonderfully poured trio, Bill, I remembered that I’d photographed mine not too long ago! Had a raffle winner with buyer’s remorse hit me up with retail, so I’m very thankful and appreciative of that. I consider this to be something of a burnt flesh marble, though it most certainly does not smell as such. Even still, this is a GREAT pour, and I’m always fascinated with Dennis’ ability to get such intricate swirls in the pocket Kumon and Nekomata. Also, I love the way they’re packaged with having their own baggy stapled. Spoiler
